President Obama Endorses Gay Marriage

Hey!!

I wonder, on the issue of gay marriage, where do the Presidents of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, North Korea, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay, Venezuela & Vietnam stand!?!? Lets start some threads! ;)

Because it's wrong obviously. What gay people want to do behind closed doors is up to them, but getting married is for a man and a woman only IMHO. They shouldn't be allowed to adopt children either.

I really hope you're joking - You must be very close-minded if that's the way you think...

Yes, but when you hold such an unreasonable position, debate isn't particularly easy. :p

It's only unreasonable to you and everyone else that holds your views.

Wah! We want to be just like everyone else! Jump up and down all you like, gays are not like everyone else, so they shouldn't be treated like everyone else or have the same rights as everyone else. Simples.

Gays are human

Do you feel the same way about those with disabilities? Obviously without the jumping up and down bit...

What do you mean "gays aren't the same as everyone else"?

You sound like a hill billy from the deep south talking about black people..."they're not the same an us Cletus, they be animals I tell ya, ANIMALS!!!"

Core difference between my gf and I: I like spicy food, she doesn't
Core difference between my gay friend and I: I'm attracted to women, he's attracted to men.

We are all different, should we all have different rights?

Apologies Tyron, some of us need sleep and don't spend all our time on the internet arguing with strangers. Why do we want to get married, my own personal reason is that I don't believe that Jesus would allow discrimination and that I love this man and don't want just a civil partnership as he's Christian, not to mention the utter hypocrisy of religion claiming to have ownership of "marriage". You're saying we're forcing churches to do something they don't want to, what about the legalisation of abortion, should we ban that as well seeing as the catholic church is against, what about contraception?
Religion and the State should be separate, I agree that if a church doesn't want to marry gay couples that's fine but that does not give them the right to deny marriage for all gay people who may not share their religious views. Religion has no place in this discussion, so I will ask you again, if a gay couple marries, what awful effect will it have on your life?

Yes it does. Being scared of flying is a phobia, being scared of crashing isn't.

A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος, Phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear") is, when used in the context of clinical psychology, a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational.

I think the real reason some people oppose gay marriage is they fear divorce rates amongst gay people would be lower than with hetreosexual couples.

Oddly, I have 2 'married' gay couples as friends, both for 4 years. I know 4 other couples that have been married, 2 of which are now divorced.

I know anecdotal is pointless, but just sayin'

I was going to stay out of this thread because Tyron's increasingly angry mantoddler rants were proving almost too tempting to resist ripping apart but then you posted ... that ... and made me join in :(

Please tell us all why gay people shouldn't be treated like everyone else or have the same rights as everyone else. Citations for any facts you produce would be fantastic.

As I said, it's an irrational fear.

If a man was holding a gun to your head, you would be well within your rights to be scared, you wouldn't be suffering a 'phobia' of being shot in the head at that point.

Which is why homophobia is a good term because being scared of gay people is irrational.

Not true, I was up for a little longer then went to bed myself. If you're going to ask a question it is best you state your skirting away for the night and can't reply.

Irrelevant point as gays can't have kids so you have no business bringing it into the discussion, we're talking about gays here.

Yes it does, you have no right to force them to go against their own values (no matter how wrong you feel them to be). If you want to commit to your partner get a civil partnership and stop treading on the rights of the church.

I have already answered this question.
