Ok...feeling old now...spec me...washing machine!

So by assuming that the washing machine is anything like your average turntable, are most washing machines belt driven?

Yeah they are, Daewoo do a washing machine with direct drive but LG are better machines.

Plus getting hold of spares for a Daewoo is like finding hens teeth.

Most machines you have a motor and belt, belts snap, the carbon brushes wear, direct drive removes all of that.

My Bosch washing machine was purchased in 1999 and has been used most days since. Sure it's had a couple of issues but it was made in Germany and built with parts designed to last.

The last engineer who serviced it told us to keep it going as long as possible.

I think most cheap Bosch machines are not made in Germany anymore.

Ooo - does that make them very quiet?

The LG's look pretty cool as well.

+1 to LG

Their DD system is great: ridiculously quiet, more reliable than belt, and they have some other cool efficiency gadgets (like showering water from the sump over the clothes to reduce water usage which also allows the putting of liquid detergent straight into the drum), not to mention being very easy to use.

Bosch are still great, but they've started catering to the cheapo market a bit now so not all their stuff is as good as it used to be. Miele are fantastic, but stupidly expensive.

I should add that Samsung have started doing DD motors for some of their models, but besides their "diamond drum" and some other pretty useless extras, it doesn't improve on the LG, which was the first to bring it to the market. Might be cheaper though, and the DD motor is the real selling point.

Going to get the LG :) - Just spoke to sister, she's happy with the price, tis all good :)

Quite looking forward to this now!

LG have have similar drum.

You're going to get people who say buy x because they have never had a problem with it. Then you're going to get people who say buy z because they have never had a problem with it. Then the people who buy x will say not to buy z because it's ****.

And then you're going to get people who actually put these machines through big tests in proper labs for the best part of 27 years and sent their results all around the world to magazines like WHICH.

Phwoar! Living life on the edge over here! :p
