Which 670?

look at the Vortez review where they remove the stock cooler and show a lump of metalic garbage which is the reference heatsink.

The reference design is only good if you don't ever want to overclock, and its not just the cooler but also the PCB limiting its overclocks.

I've been wondering which 670 as well. From research it seems the Asus could be the best.

Quote:

Yes, you've seen correctly, the ASUS GeForce GTX 670 Direct CU II TOP is the first graphics card ever that I gave a perfect ten score. The stock GeForce GTX 670 provides already great performance, but ASUS has topped that by boosting it with a large overclock out of the box which catapults it beyond GTX 680 performance levels. Averaged over all our testing we see the card 1% faster than GTX 680 and 8% faster than GTX 670. The card does so without massive power consumption increase thanks to an efficient VRM design and low temperatures. ASUS has done away with NVIDIA's cheap voltage regulation circuitry and put a much better CHiL controller on the card, which also supports voltage control and monitoring.
The ASUS DC II cooler is a revelation on the GTX 670, it provides incredibly low noise levels. In both idle and load the card emits almost no noise, it is actually quieter under full load than most other cards on the market are at idle. Not only noise is low but temperatures are great, too. With only 74°C under load the card is quieter than most other GTX 670 cards tested today.

Worth considering maybe? It's one of the more expensive ones however.

The Asus is a nice model, but being just 6+6 pin it won't overclock as far as the Gigabyte and KFA2. It does look a lot nicer though. It has the highest stock speeds of all the cards, but the gigabyte and KFA2 should be able to beat it with manual overclocking.

I guess it's not difficult to oc a card though on the cooler it comes with, especially if you can get faster for cheaper. I want the quietest possible after my current card!

Which would be better then from the kfa and gigabyte. The gigabyte is a bit more expensive. Better cooling and quieter possibly?

Gigabyte has 1 year additional warranty too. I bought the KFA2 on impulse because at the time it had been listed as a valid card for the free keyring offer which it isn't anymore, and 5UB said I can still have a keyring if I don't get one in the box tomorrow :)

Now Id get the gigabyte instead though for just £5 more because that offer has been removed.

Is there anything "wrong" with the OcUk/Palit one for it to be the cheapest, if youre not considering too much OC maybe around 10% it should be ok?

I would also like to know this, has anyone overclocked one of these cards yet?

And what kind of noise level does it produce?

Gibbo tested the palit and it ran at 1200 / 7000. Its in his overclocking thread, very nice card for a reference design.

I shouldn't imagine so tbh, I've ordered the KFA2 reference (only £6 more) which I imagine will be quite similar to the OcUK one, I'll be sure to post my comments once it arrived.

The OCUK value card is just whichever one they get for the lowest price. Palit have been around for a long time but just aren't one of the top brands. There won't be any difference between the reference designs though.

all the reference ones will be within a small % of each other, it may be a case that you win the silicon lottery and get one that does 1250+ or you might lose and get one that does high 1100's, but in games the difference will be about 1FPS so not worth worrying the extra money for

chears for the fast replies, i didn't think there would be, just get a little suspect. hoping soon my job becomes more secure then i can put together something that will actually run a half decent game :)

I understand what you guys are saying regarding the stock vs custom cooler, butthe price difference is £30.

The point of the 670 is in my eyes a nice gpu which is £100 cheaper than the 680.

If we start buying the more expensive models, then why not just go all out and get the 680, only £50 price difference.

Going for the cheaper model such as the MSI OC, makes the card more of a bargin becuase it truelly is £70-£100 cheaper than the 680..

Saying that, now you guys are convincing me to the the KFA2!!

I personally went for the MSI OC version, the custom cooler for me personally isn't worth the price premium since I won't be clocking the card myself, hence going for a factory overclocked version.

You're not just paying for a better cooler on the custom cooled cards, you're also paying for double the amount of silicon lol.

As above, not just the cooler but you also get a GTX 680 PCB!

I'm still in bed today due to being sick ... But if you wait till later I'll post PCB and cooler comparison pictures. The reference 670 is just a terrible piece of engineering fail.
