Must be a day for bad drivers. Was cycling back home, car looking to come out of a car park, made eye contact and the usual thought of 'you can't be stupid enough to pull out can you' after a pause for thought she pulled out. Had to slam on the brakes and slightly swerve into the middle of the road to avoid going into the back of the car. Was close enough to give the car a few good slaps on the boot to let her know. Didn't even put a hand out to apologise

Funnily enough on my way to work yesterday a female driver just pulled out about 3-4m in front of me from a side road. If I hadn't expected her stupidity and slowed\moved out to the right she'd have clipped me. Stupid cow. She had no idea I was there in broad daylight, in a high vis jacket.

Watched most of the stage yesterday (thank God for Virgin V+) and was really happy that finally, finally, for the first time this season I saw what looked like an effective leadout for Cav. Had HTC written all over it. 7 men in his leadout train yesterday. And it paid off. From 2km you just knew it was never in doubt. :)

And I'd like to see a footballer pick up that kind of injury (at 75kph, plus he was hit while on the deck) and still pick himself up for a team time trial 2 days later and a 200km race the day after that. Well played mate. :)

Stage 6 of the Giro d'Italia today. First semi-mountain stage. The only level road segments are to be seen upon finish.

The whole stage features a continuous uphill and downhill route in the middle of the Macerata’s and Fermano’s Apennines valleys, with short and sharp ascents followed by technical descents. The route presents 4 GPM (Cingoli -3a 746 m – km 95.4; Passo della Cappella 2ª m 772 – km 118; Montelupone 3ª m 251 – km 154.7; Montegranaro 3ª m 241 – km 176.5) one of which featuring 4 kilometers of dirt road (Passo della Cappella) with a gradient around 9% and peaks of 15%. The last kilometers run along the Porto Sant’Elpidio hinterland.

After the crossing of Trodica di Morrovalle the race faces the Montegranaro wall featuring an up to 18% gradient on a narrowed roadway. Broad and fast descent up to Casette d’Ete before climbing the Santa Lucia ascent (gradient up to 15%) and re-enter the Adriatica State Road by a technical descent. One more easy to climb ascent up to Corva to re-enter a second time the State Road at 6 km. At 1,800 meters from the finish two more curves interrupted by an underpass lead to the 1,500 meters long and 7.5 meters wide asphalted home stretch.

SKY aren't quite there yet. The HTC train was a thing of beauty, so incredible to watch. They are doing far better than early season though, which is to be expected - practice makes perfect.

Cav's speed is phenomenal, he's so far ahead of everyone else. Goss is rapid, very rapid. Probably the best of the rest.

I'm trying to narrow down a noise coming from my bike. When standing up on the bike going up a hill putting high load through the pedals I hear a high pitch pinging noise at random intervals through what sounds like the rear wheel.

The wheels are Mavic Ksyrilium SL's and are perfectly true (as tested by a LBS).

What could be the cause of the pinging noise? My cycling buddies thought it might be a spoke but this was also ruled out by the LBS.
I replaced my bottom bracket last night in trying to track down a very annoying noise when cranking hard on the pedals. Tracking it down had been difficult because of a previous issue with my rear hub which made a similar noise. But after a test this morning I appear to finally have resolved the issue \o/

It had done 4500 miles, so probably due for replacement.

Last time I had an infuriating pedalling squeek I tracked it down to the saddle rails. Was beleedin' annoying after checking and greasing every possible moving part.

This is frustrating. I called the driver that I collided with, who at the time admitted fault to the incident, now believes she was not at fault as she said I was on the driver side of her car. I would be if you pull out from the side of the road and do a U-turn without signalling or checking...

I'm not really sure what to do now, other than wait and hope the insurance company makes the right decision.

Trying to get in touch with a witness, but I don't know how much she saw.

That sucks. It's quite common for people to change their story once they leave the scene. If they admit at the scene then we don't feel the need to gather witnesses/evidence or call the police. They then go on to change their mind, either being advised to or they planned to.

Try and get something in writing from the driver if something like this ever happens again. I don't know how well that would hold up in the insurers' eyes but it's certainly something.

Good that you're still in one piece and hope you get it sorted.

Nice link George. I didn't realise there was something like this dedicated to cycle accidents.

Thanks for the information guys.

I think it's time I invested in a helmet camera so that I have solid evidence in the future.

I am a member of British Cycling, which entitles me to legal assistance, so I shall call them when they are open.

I have a witness' number, but I can't get hold of her. I don't know how much she saw as she was just down the road when it happened, probably only saw the aftermath, and I'm hoping her recollection matches my recollection which would help support me.

Damn Strava, had a crack at a route I had seen on there today, few km's from my door so a little time to warm up/down before having a ride.

2nd fastest, two and a half minutes behind the quickest time, the wind got up and made the second half really tough, was over three minutes ahead at the halfway point, then had to battle all the way back to town and lost it all and then some.

Bit of experience of it now though, so next time will go out a little easier and save some for coming back, both directions have cat 4 climbs, but the second is longer with less of a gradient, I seem to find shorter steeper ones easier where I can use more leg strength.

Hi Guys, just to let anyone interested know that on Tues 15th, All of Endura Racing ( team cars and all ) will be stopping at

Pedal Power Cycles
13 Main Street
West Calder
EH55 8BY

for a couple of hours before they head to Kircaldy for the first stage of the Halford tour series.

Anyone is welcome alone from 9.30am

( im the skinny guy Garry in the workshop if anyone wants to say hello! )

I thought I did pretty well getting out at 05:30 for my first proper ride in over 6 weeks; then I saw the course George Hincanpie posted, and now I feel worthless and pathetic. On the plus side, I feel inspired to train even harder now.

 what are you going to do to us?

I was wanting to go to kircaldy to watch the race but my car doesnt work just now and i cant find any busses/trains :(
Are you going to kircaldy? Should be a good race to watch. It's on itv4 so at least i'll still get to watch it.

First sportive of the year tomorrow: SWRC May Flyer. Only doing the short route as the chap i was doing it with has dropped out. Doing it with a couple of club mates instead and they are only up for the 60 miler. Managed 3.21 last year and the other guys are quick so I'm hoping to go quicker.

Not ridden in over two weeks as I've been on holiday so no idea what form I'm in. Glad it's dry as the only wheels I've got at the moment are the deep carbon rims.

Finally had an MRI scan last Tuesday to find out what the pain is in my right knee/leg, hopefully will be able to get to the bottom of it when the results come through, hopefully nothing too serious! Won't stop be going out on the club run tomorrow though. :D
