I must say though that i do feel a little sense of "it would just be easier if we didn't let any one them into the country without a very good reason".
Probably not the best attitude but it certainly seems an easier fix.
yes there are natives who do terrible things but we don't really have the option of stopping them being here before they do anything.
If we had it so that to get here you needed to be coming in as a skilled employee of a major company that procures your visa for you (because they cannot fill the role with a suitable native candidate) and any crime = straight back wherever you came from and we turned down all asylum-seekers saying they can claim asylum in France or whatever EU country they last came from and send them back to that.
yes we'd lose a lot of good people but arguably we'd not let in a lot of the bad too.
The more stuff like this seems to come out the more and more the "don't let them in" ideology seems to make sense.
