***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Touchwiz (and any other skin for that matter) is more than just a launcher.......

I'm going to see how I get along with the Touchwiz launcher, before I install Nova launcher. But I will be installing the google core apps (sms, dialer, email), don't like the look of the samsung designed apps.

Whats a Galaxys S Tree he keeps going on about in the video ;).

Expansys have the 16gb version on for £519.99 now, wonder what the 32 and 64 versions will be.

Yep, touxhwiz goes much deeper than just the top. I really think what is on stock ics is much more practical and nicer. Not interested in rooting either. HTC Sense is OK, but not touchwiz,. For me anyway

Sense is not much better than touchwhiz wtf!

For starters HTC's UI is all white as opposed to Samsung black colours so in ieffect TW is closer to stock if you excuse the coloured icons.

In certain areas it is much better than TW IMO.

You can't deny that sense looks more pretty :o everywhere even if it does use white in menus etc.

The widgets are in a class of their own. The gallery from what I have seen so far is far better not in just the UI but the editing features that you gain.

Plus everything feels like one, a consistent UI throughout. I don't know about tiny things like copying text in the browser/text etc. but sense is very nice here as well and the way that it magnifies text when selecting the text is great. The lockscreen also looks better, have a lot of choice as to what you want.

The only area where touchwiz seems to be better is the "under the bonnet" areas such as the gestures, speed/smoothness, codecs (not that I have had a problem at all playing any file types on the internal storage though) etc. The main thing that I like about this new touchwiz version is the popup video player which overlays on a browser window etc.

EDIT:

I would take touchwiz over any other previous version of sense, but not V4 as it is just sooo much better now and usually I replace everything there is straight away with 3rd party apps but on v4, I haven't.

I can't speak for widgets as I don't use any stock widgets on any phone but I am an oled fan so the more black the better in my eyes.
It's the deep down stuff that's more important anyway.

OH!

Thanks very much for that! :D

Guess that isn't really a main unique feature of the GS 3 any more then....... :p

This is the thing with Android, anything that Samsung/HTC/etc create when it comes to software will just be ported/replicated. Which is a good thing really (and bad for Samsung).

Be interesting to see how that popup player does on the HTC Ones in regards to smoothness while using another thing like the browser. It has shown to be butter smooth on the S3

Only just been giving it a quick try now, it works superbly on my S, smooth and fast even when watching a video via the browser through youtube in that overscreen window and at the same time browsing using the quick ics browser or a 1080P trailer and using overscreen to browser. Very quick wee browser as well. Shame about the UI of it though, don't think there is any button to hide the thick borders either :(

EDIT:

Just seen this:

'auto hide URL bar' option, thinner title bar

Using an old version at the minute to test it out first ;) :p so don't have those improvements yet.

Am I the only one that absolutely hates the term 'buttery smooth' or any similar metaphor? I don't know why, but it really grates on me. I don't want my phone to be buttery; I want it to be responsive.

You can always use Overskreen, which is a pop up browser to watch YouTube.

Would you prefer a slippery creamy motion? ;p

Just seen this :p

Yup very true. The beauty of android :p :D

Although some stuff can't be replicated especially things, which are specific to sense, touchwiz etc. alone even when rooting and flashing a custom ROM, well afaik anyway.

buttery == metaphor for smooth == responsive... what's the problem :p

About the S III, I think I'll get one eventually when the price comes down a bit, until then I'm perfectly happy with my S II :)

edit: ok maybe I miss-understood, "buttery-smooth" is a bit of a stupid term to describe it, tbh :p
