G you got time to do some laps with me tomorrow? Sorry had to drop out driving school. Skill you didnt half scare me into Moss LOL saw U closing thought o no what a bend to have a fast guy on my backside tried to not mess it up and take U out with me. I used that much caution i hit every curb going so slow and drited into the tires at about 4mph i had to laugh at myself.

No way Ill be trying a 17 wing just having you guys around me at those speeds is enough for now.

yeah i know, im gunna at least try 1 race with it tho.

if it fails ill use 26, but im doing well with the 17...

Could be interesting, I might have to use a 17 for a Q lap if I can get a bit better, but it's quite possible, certainly on the thursday and friday, that we could be 1-2 on the grid with you on Pole...

Obviously the 26 is quicker round the corners but it'll be all I can do just to keep up down the straights, really got no idea where an overtake could be done.

I think I remember that bit, was planning to get the run onto the straight hence steaming in quite quickly only to see you gracefully sliding off :)

you should just give that 17 wing time mate, if i can do it you most certainly can, its not that bad once you get to grips with it...

yeah in the lower sof races it will be me and you again, saying that mate our times are rapid full stop we stand a good chance of some awesome finishes in all splits...

i did a 12.9 and im still finding time in the 1st 3 turns and exit of moss, not much but still if i can match that in quali ill be happy...

I'll probably give it a go tomorrow evening for a bit, when I got corners right it was really good fun and gave glimpses of the speed, like getting the perfect slide all the way through T2 after chucking it in in 5th and hoping for the best, but I found the set bounced a fair bit on a couple of crucial corners which just killed my exit speed, off the top of my head it was T3 and the last corner I was having the most problems with...

I did try raising and softening the rear, at the same time as switching to a medium arb at the read, that got me into the 13's for the first time and was a good chunk more stable but I think just that minor change lost the ultimate pace from the set.

But the 17 is definitely the quickest, if I'm gonna qualify then I need to get to grips with it or hope for a lucky tow on a 26 set :p

Keep at it mate. At the start i was drving off at every bend, locking up the brakes. Think it took me a good half hour to actualy get round the track. Also when you come to racing aim just to finish. I promise you just by averaging 1.03 your get a decent finish as to many rookies drive far outside there ablity. Just start form the pits your pass at least 4 people on lap one. Remeber Its 20-25 laps a lot can happen. Keep the car on the road look after the tires and your do fine.

Another thing for rookie racing if a t1 Hero does shunt you, you get one Free repair that is instant, remember to untick fuel and untick tire changes. I have them assigned to my wheel. As default there f *

Thanks ill keep that in mind, i noticed when i did pop into the pits i had 55l of petrol and they add another 55l lol. Thanks for the tips! Online racing tomorrow i'm not racing now, im fatigued after doing an FF session, fastest lap of 8 was 1:02:xx

Is it this difficult to drive a souped up mx-5 in real life ;)

it defo takes a while to master it mate, but once you get a good feel for it theres no stopping it, i never got the bouncing, t3 i take tight and get on the power as early as i can and the last turn is a early turn in and down to 2nd for me...

the set might just not suit you mate, you never got on with my 17 wing set for the glen either did you, i make them for me so they aint gunna be every bodys cup of tea...

why when i do Lime Rock Park does my G27 wheel feel very notchy and moving left and right about half and inch ( feels like driving an old vehicle with a very very worn steering box,, lots of play/slack )
Is that just the race track as Okayama is fine , not really ran other tracks to see what they are like.

@dean_ham if you want to jump on with me and acknor tomorrow your more than welcome. I can show you the braking points, basic line. If you watch an onboard or two you can see what speeds im taking in and out the bends. Ive got so much from the iracing community and the club guys on here i dont mind giving a little back. I also love the little car.

Another tip when your racing show other drivers respect you will pick up some friends along the way, over time people will get to no your name and no your not a rammer. Most nights there a host of the same guys on the grid, Ive learnt WHO i can race lap after lap within 3 tenths of each other and who to just sit behind until they hit someone or just drive themselfs off the road.

Some more tips while i can think male sure you have spotter turned on and comms enabled even if you're not using a mic. Most people do. Being able to talk to the guy your racing adds confidance.

If your on a single screen use a low fov it helps a great deal knowing if your 2mm off a bumper or two ft.
Set the virtual mirror to 45 degrees no more no less. Google it if you need to know Why. But basically Its the difference between 2mm and seeing them 2mm away.

Take your time some of these guys have dozens of Seasons over us.

Well got my subscription sorted and my first race was awful. Started really well, but the lack of first lap grip really caught me out and span. Recovered nicely then some stupid idiot was dawdling around and trying to ram people as we went buy. He knackered my car amongst others and had to retire. Was good fun, noticed a lot of wreckers even in the practice sessions.

Managed to do a very flukey 59.7xx in the MX5 around Lime Rock so was happy with that. The ghost racing feature is brilliant though, really do like that.

What is apparent though, is that my brake pedal on my DF:GT is quite frankly dog ****. Very diifficult to judge the threshold between braking nicely and locking up :(

Very nice time for just starting ^^ :P
Did you try to adjust the in game braking threshold setting ( the slider bar ) in the part where you calibrate the wheel etc

Aye changed it to like 2.9 or whatever it is but still find my self locking up at the slightest touch. I would say my race pace is quite decent but seem to be a little too hard on the tyres. Would say my average lap time is in the 1.00.6xx area.

Are you at the mercy of what the next track and car layout is in the rookie series? Bit sick of lime rock to be honest!

I didn't find the glen one too bad, but yeah, obviously my driving style is sufficiently different to yours that with the 17 wing I can't get it to work, I might actually have to start putting some effort into setting up the car for myself

Are there any simple tips for tweaking the general balance of the car, I think I mentioned earlier I took your 17 and raised the rear, softened the springs and made the arb stiffer, which did work for me, but I didn't do it in a decent progression to see what change affected specific parts of the handling...

T3 wasn't too bad, don't think I ever span there, just felt that it was bouncing just that little bit to upset the rear making it a bit slower on the exit. The last corner though my line was bouncing quite badly, fairly frequently lost it there :p

mine was like that i had to open up my pedals and put them back together properly.

the brake pedal was already pushing against the pedometer by 1 notch from the factory making it so the small amount of play you get in the brake was 50% braking already

the last 30% of so of the brake pedal was doing nothing as it was already maxed out by that point... you can test it by opening joy.cpl from the start menu in windows (just type joy.cpl in the search bar)

Josh Depends what way you want to go I like a loose car while a lot like a tight car, but from what you just said you must like it looseish aswell, I'd try adjust the rear dampers first make them slightly stiffer that should help you but not take no speed from the set...

The last turn is tricky full stop for me, I go down to 2nd and keep it tight to the inside kerb and try not to let it wash out too wide on exit...

That's odd. During my first subscription I don't really remember seeing many (if any) wreckers. Don't let it put you off :)

Yeah, loose-ish is the way forward, but clearly not as loose as you :p

Only way I could run the last corner iirc was in 2nd, late entry and not drifting out more than about half the track width...

I really wish I knew more about cars so I could make a setup which suits me.

With the Late Model and SK Mod I ended up just spending lots and lots of time doing a few laps, changing a setting, doing some more, repeated for hours to learn how to set them up...

I've read a few things about how different changes should affect the car but I don't seem to find that maps to the feel of the car much, possibly more useful for tyre wear but that's not really an issue most of the time :)
