just out of intrest, what are they like during the day? are they mostly together or do they do their own thing? also, when you work or go out, do they miss you then (howl)?

Ok, well they do howl when I go out...as confirmed by neighbours
well that would probably rule out the light then
(unless you only go out when its dark). i think their patterns of behaviour during the day might lead to their morning behaviour.
if its just the fact they miss you, unfortunatly all you can do is reinforce the fact they ont get anything by howling, and that you always come back. they will therefore grow out of it.
if however its a bladder issue (they start howling after a few hours when you leave and not instantly and constantly) then again, they will get better bladder control as they age.
if they spend most of their day apart but are forced to sleep together in a cage, then again, maybe the howling in the morning is just s cry for 'get me away from them, i want my space back'.
Hmmm, Well if I had a negative versus I could only compare your love of 'On The Buses' as the greatest travesty to appear on our TV! I mean there is a time and place for 70's tv - the seventies!
They are always together, the female is the boss (of course
) because the male has special needs and he tends to follow her around all the time, but they love each other and couldn't be seperated.

this would all lead to the fact they just miss you and want a fuss syndrome.
the best thing to do, from my experience, is through out the day, leave them for short periods (even if its just standing outside for 5 mins so they cant see you, so they get used to the fact you leave and then come back. make it a little bit longer over time. this stops the daytime howling. and again the morning one is similar, its patience and not rushing as soon as they start. if you really think its gunna annoy your neighbour have a polite chat with them and explain you understand they are noisey and your trying to stop it with some reinforced tough love.
Edit : like i said in a previous post, for my first dog when this happened, we just left her cage door open so she could wonder down and check everyone was still at home.

yup, well i've preempted the neighbours as they are really nice and I don't want to upset them.
As for leaving them out - well they have a tendency to leave a happy package of **** on the floor...sigh so many problems.
Before anyone shouts training etc - i do and have done the potty training outside, I think they just like pooing on the floor!

they are 6 months and still messing consistantly in the house? that is an issue in itself really.
Yep, sounds like seperation anxiety and this is the best thing you could do to help them. Had to do the exact same with my staffie but quickly worked
You only go back in once they have stopped howling though, otherwise they will associate your return is due to them crying for attention.
Be plenty of articles on google if you search for seperation anxiety
EDIT: Really shouldn't be messing in the house at that age either
well rarely - it's mainly the female funnily enough. The male is really good, but she sometimes gets so excited she pees.
Frankly, she is overweighing it, they have rapidly decreased how often they do it now, I wouldnt even call it consistent now. More occassional accidents now really.

my 13 year bitch still has the occassional wee when she gets excited to see people, she always has. but the messing in the house shouldnt still happen, if it is, then there is something wrong. either they dont want to do it outside so not emptying themselves fully (maybe they are anxious to get back inside and have a fuss). if its very rare, it can be forgiven, as they do forget to ask occasionally if a lot is going on, but this shouldnt happen any more if the cag door was open and they could wonder around than it would if it was shut.
Yeah they certainly dont have a problem doing it outside, its generally wee and usually, as you say, during excitement. Its a very active household, very busy, lots of people coming and going and I think the female, in particular, does get over excited from time to time. Though even that is something which has noticeably reduced in recent weeks.

i have found that bitches on the whole, assume EVERYONE is come to exclusivly see THEM. like i said, my first dog hasnt grown out of it, she has just got better at controlling it.
