Adrian Durham rips apart Arsenal's 'Invincibles'

You cannot go a season without losing without a large slice of luck, its as simple as that. If a team like Barcelona can't do it then it relies on a lot of luck. The current Barca side would rinse Arsenal of 03-04.

LOL not a chance. it would be a pretty tight affair. This current Barca sides' defence for instance is SHOCKING compared to arsenals defence in the invincible season.

Chelsea made Barca look silly defensively recently and RM did the same too.

BARCA's defence is shocking. as bad arsenal of today. probably worse as they are MUCH MORE gong-ho then arsenal of today.

They didn't score that many and drew lots of games. Personally I think the premier league is much more competitive than it ever used to be and the fact that the small teams can still have a pop at the giants is great. If you put that arsenal team in the league now I don't think they would come close to winning it and they wouldn't make it a season without losing a game.

Yeah but where Arsenal Drew a lot of team lose instead.

To say that team wouldnt come close to winning the title now is a joke. Arsenal arent a touch on what that team were and they still finished 3rd. I am 100% they could have got and extra 10-15pts even if they were all draws lol

And yes they had luck and manufactured `pires luck` but what title winning team doesnt.

exactly. City has had a lot of luck this season too and also bought 600m worth of luck too.

dotn forget, this arsenal side cost a total of 2-3 players city bought. peanuts bruv

They drew a lot of games towards the end of that season but lets face it they were on the brink of making history, doing something that has only been done once in English top flight football (Preston in 1888 but they only played 22 games and most teams were **** back then), so you can understand the amount of pressure that they must have been under not to lose one of those last few games and balls it all up.

Comparing it to Juventus and Serie A is unfair they are different leagues and City's goal difference this season has come in the most part to lacklustre defending from the big teams and turning over the small teams.

Barca don't need to defend in general. Chelsea won because they put the entire team behind the ball and they were very lucky over two legs. Another day they would have lost over the 2 legs with a 5 or 6 goal deficit.

If the arsenal of 03-04 was against the current barca squad they would get minced. A good defence is not enough against Barca, you need to defend as an entire team and attack on the counter.

Ramires scored an absolute beauty of a goal and Torres got a consolation goal whilst Barca were pressing for the goal they needed.

Nothing new here. Team goes a whole season unbeaten, playing excellent football, someone thinks they will look like some kind of genius if they claim they were not very good...like they are seeing things we mortals are not capable of. See it all the time, especially on this board!

They finished third almost entirely because of RVP and that is a very distant third, by 19 points. The league in general is much stronger now and I don't think for a second Arsenal would have done so well in the current climate. They would have been up there but I very much doubt they could win it.

I see that all the time on these forums. Learn the difference between subjective and objective arguments buddy.

The invincible team was the probably one of the greatest counter attacking teams in modern day club football.

Chelsea scored both their goals on the counter yet they could have been on the wrong end of a hammering by that time. Counter attacking football only works if you can stop the other team from scoring. I don't believe that Arsenal side would have managed that no matter how good at countering they were.

Why are you so sure that the Arsenal 03/04 team would not win the league in the current climate?

Yet Arsenal conceded 26 goals in the league in 03/04 and Chelsea even though holding out to Barca conceded 46 goals but you're suggesting that that Arsenal team would have no chance of keeping Messi et al out??

I think the league is stronger in general. All the teams on their day are capable of beating anyone else. I don't think their team would have beaten City to the title. United were there through god knows what but City have played great football and are a top squad. If I compare the two squads and picked who I would prefer in an "all star 11" there would be more of the current City side than the 03-04 arsenal side.

As I say, thats just my opinion and I am obviously in the minority. Personally I never rated Gary Neville as highly as others yet he is apparently the best right back the league has seen.

Do you think Adrian Durham actually believes what he is saying?

Here is a direct quote- "New Zealand at the last World Cup, they were unbeaten as well, New Zealand. New Zealand are the invincibles. Well done New Zealand, you are as good as Arsenal".

Not to mention his bizarre comment about Wayne Bridge scoring a goal against them trying to make...some kind if point, not sure what.

I like the way he doesn't even concede a single point. The closest he gets to even saying something positive is "most of the season they entertained, to be fair". I don't mind him disagreeing with them being named the best team ever, but some of the points he tries to make in this are ludicrous!

Fair play. It is very difficult to say who would beat who to the league as they're from two different eras. Have to say an all star 11 would contain maybe 3 city players at the most. Obviously I'm biased.

I agree on one thing, Gary Neville was not the best right back the league has ever seen. That was Dixon, closely followed by Oleg Luzhny

You are massively oversimplifying that aren't you? When Chelsea play against QPR, do you genuinely believe that they stick the team behind the ball and sit in their own penalty area?

If Chelsea treated and played in the semi-final in the same manner as they do a premier league match I wouldn't have been surprised to see double figures over two legs.

Very, very few sides have kept Barca from scoring in a game and they have a squad of players that can change a game single handedly in an instant. Genuinely interested as to whether you think that the current Barca squad would beat "the invincibles".

If they played 10 games what do you think the results would look like.

I would say easily 8 - 2 to Barca.

I thought you were talking directly to me so I apologise. No, everything he says is quite mental. If I was using his tact I would use the fact that United have won more games this season than "the invincibles" so therefore they must be better.

The 03-04 squad was great but I think that people are overselling it a bit, thats all.

They are very much capable of beating that Arsenal side as I think Arsenal would be capable of beating that Barca side.

Over 10 games Barca probably would win overall as they are probably THE greatest footballing side ever along with de Stephano's Real of the 50s(?).

It just puzzles me how you're so absolute in your opinions.
