In shock by this still, got woken up at 3:30am on Thursday morning by someone trying to prise off our kitchen window with a crowbar! They've made quite a mess of it, bending a lot of the plastic around it and damaging the brickwork too.

Went downstairs after hearing the banging and they saw me and ran off before I could get a description of them so unfortunately Police had little to go off (Who were excellent by the way, had 3+ cars round within 5 minutes and CSI shortly after).

We initially though they were after either my father's or my car as those were the ones on the driveway and both keys were on display in the kitchen :( Follow up officer spoke to us today and confirmed that they were most likely after mine as they'd had a surge of people in the area having ST's/Seat FR's etc targeted by thieves looking to steal then strip them of unique parts. It's certainly taken the shine off owning my ST now as I already worried about it (Just think back to Overlag's car getting stripped in a car park) and its even worse now, worrying they'll just come back and tear bits off instead.

We're going to be fitting a CCTV system in the next week or two and a motion light on the drive, hopefully be a big deterrent.

Just reminds me what a **** country we live in, I thought my car was quite safe as we live in a relatively rural area but still have problems with the scum in our city

Well they didn't exactly have a flashing neon sign next to them, they were just on the kitchen table among lots of other random stuff but still visible from the rear door.

Exactly and most crimes are crimes of opportunity, odds are the thieves had a look earlier to see if anyone was readily accessible. Seen the keys and figured they could quickly break in, grab the keys and make off.

Well the officer who stayed at our house to take statements while her colleagues drove around looking for suspects actually got a call saying that they'd just gotten a call from about 5 miles down the road (Probably about 40 minutes after our incident), with the exact same thing. Two males in black hoodies trying to crowbar a window open, so they were definitely out to steal cars with keys and didn't just chance the house.

A bloke round the corner from me had his ST robbed. They smashed his front door in and threatened him for the keys! :O

That's the thing, I need to decide whether I keep my keys in the kitchen or risk a knife in the neck when someone threatens me for them :(

Unfortunately your not allowed to have nice things. One reason why I went down the bangernomics route, what is the point of spending £££ on a nice car when some scumbags will happily trash your car.

What is the particular attraction with ST/FR's?

Definitely inspires me to stick with sleeper cars. I may debadge my V6 at some point in an attempt to prevent any jealousy-induced vandalism :p

I keep my car keys hung up completely out view of anyone looking in through a window/door, but in full view of someone who has come in the house and about to come upstairs.

Thinking that if they're determined and professional enough to not be deterred by, or disabled my CCTV, they're going to be ruthless enough to come upstairs and threaten with with a rather large or deadly weapon if the keys aren't visible once they're inside.

It's not a nice thing to have to think about but I've already had someone walk up to the car on the drive in broad daylight and lift my headlight washer covers. The policeman who attended came with a long long list of bits that had been stolen from ST220's and Focus ST's round here recently.

Added to the fact that my son's bedroom is the first one a would-be attacker would come across before they got to mine, as gutting as it would be, they're bloody welcome to the piece of metal on the drive rather than scare the life out of or potentially harm a 5-year old in the middle of the night :(

Still struggling to make you first decent post? Nevermind, maybe you'll manage in the next 5,000. :)
