What's the deal with all these young people going bald?

I noticed on facebook a while ago that nearly everyone I went to school with has significant balding or receding hairlines starting in their early/mid twenties?! Doesn't seem normal.

I think it might be heavy drinking messing up the estrogen levels or something?

Or bad diet? Something in the water (birth control pill chemicals)?

What is causing all this baldness? Prince William is a good example:

Before people say 'lolkwerk' I'd have to say it does seem to be a bigger issue then when I was a kid. Heavy drinking isn't a bad conclusion tbh. Could also be stress, lots of scientific degree graduates tend to bald more so than others I've noticed.

Kwerk is asking if male pattern baldness is increasing.

It's not his worst thread... but he's already reaching for his tinfoil hat.

Hugely increased amounts of masturbation. Srsly.

EDIT: I should clarify - this isn't completely a joke post. Orgasm causes transient conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, the compound implicated in genetically linked hair loss, but the conversion is very transient (measured in minutes).

At the moment, conventional wisdom is that there's no effect, but then again there's been no solid research done on a possible link :p:p.

Here is a fact for you.

Prince William is not early nor mid twenties. He is 1 month away from his 30's!

And

His father, Prince Charles is not exactly a role model for lots of hair, nor is his grandfather. Clearly it runs in the family gene.

I have spent many years of my life researching this and can confirm there is no link between baldness and masturbation.

You clearly don't have nearly enough data to even think about forming a hypothesis, but if you did i would guess that stress could well be an important factor.

And you seriously think that young men nowadays masturbate more than young men from my time?
While young men today have got the internet we were masters in copping off with the underwear section of a Littlewoods catalogue.

Incorrect fitting hats such as baseball caps, synthetic shampoos and hairstyling products and finally stress.
