***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Graphene looks great yeah and I imagine they will show up in the form of 3rd party back covers, now THAT is what I'm really looking forward to, not having to use a case at all > All cases, full stop :)

Edit*
Just off the phone to Play. They said the phone will be sent out for delivery on the 30th, the 64GB SDXC card will arrive on the 29th and the free case and screen protectors are due to be delivered on the 31st (not bothered about those, going on ebay).

mrk, I need to stay with o2 because I get a discount on their broadband and can't use anyone else for broasdband atm because its not my house and I don't want to mess the house owners BT line contract.

You think I would be better of buying an s3 from Play and getting a contract with o2 or getting an o2 deal which includes the phone?

Right now i'm pay as you talk on a Nokia 5800 .......

If you have the funds to go sim free then I'm sure you can work a sim only contract deal with o2 that plays out much more lucrative for you and over a shorter term so you're not tied over for 24 months :)

I dont know why everyone says sim free is so much better.

The way i see it, 24 months on giff gaff will cost at least £240 + sim free phone of £480, so £720.

On Three, you get the phone free, 24 months with loads more minutes and truely unlimited data and tethering for £656 after cashback.

You can still sell the phone in a year and just whack your Three contract sim in whatever new phone you get, so the only advantage is that you are not stuck on the same traiff for 24 months i guess?

oh also, i guess you get an unlocked phone as well which is good.

After cashback sim free still works out cheaper and over a shorter period.

The whole point is so the buyer has freedom to choose their network instead of just GiffGaff (example) and then choose the contract term be in rolling 6months or 12 or whatever else.

Mine is £500 for the phone and 12 months @ £13/month with 3 on a sim only deal = £656 before cashback and before getting the first 2 months free.

I think what mrk meant was that if I go sim free I can broker a deal with o2 as I need to stay with them for broadband. So it may be best for me.

I called o2 a couple of weeks back and asked if they would match a contract that Orange was doing and they said they would, so they are open to some bantering by the looks of it..

:)

Yes, but that is only 12 months of calls/texts/internet.

i know why people do it - because of the freedom. But if you make sure you are on the right tariff with a 24 month contract, i don't see how it works out loads cheaper. In fact with my example, it will probably work it more expensive.

24 month contracts tie you in for double the time, that's my point :) AFter 12 months there will be even better deals and since you'd be on a 12 month contract it's easy as pie to get that deal. But if you're on a 24 month contract you'd only have 1 option if you wanted a better deal contract, and that's to pay off the remaining period and start a new contract.

Data prices are always going down each year so being tied to the same one for 24 months is a bit of a bummer. I took that route once and was paying £31 a month when 12 months in better tariffs were available at £25 a month (Vodafone).

Freedom is the key word here. I guess some people don't mind but I like freedom of choice sooner rather than later!

I suppose there is that yes.

I still cant decide what i want to do, i might still go sim-free. At the moment the three deal with the cashback is looking the most attractive.

The quidco website says it expires in six days.
So people need to decide soon if that's best for them.

I may go through quidco for the three deal. I know I said I would try it first but all this waiting is getting to me :P

edit: Am I being simple or can you not use the £160 cash back? When I go to the site it tells me I can only pre order on the 29th so if the quidco expires in 6 days then that's too late?

Oh bugger, that is that out then :(. You cant order online until the 29th May.

Back to the drawing board!

Yup and the fact that both the Quidco and TCB offers say "now includes Apple 4S" implies that at some point it wasn't included, I'm thinking the same will apply to the S3.

In that case it'll be right back to the drawing board, I've just done some quick calcs and both options work out pence either side of £24 a month over 24 with all reasonable deductions I could think of, Play being the winner.

At the mo I'm leaning towards one plan off 3, even without over £100 cashback because of the no cash outlay and the great plan, accepting that I'll almost certainly buy a Note 2 when it arrives.

Does anyone know what the historical precedent is for other ultra high profile phone releases re cashback offers?

A spoon can do more than a 5800 :p

hahaha!

Can't be as bad as that, a couple of muggers tried to steal it @ 2am in the morning as I walked back to the hotel when I was on holiday in Morocco at the end of last year.
I defended it with my life!

In Morocco a 5800 is cutting edge! :p
