Chalk should help. But he seems to be saying that his hands are physically unwrapping :p

With any kind of moisture on my hands I struggle to grip onto any kind of decent weight. With chalk I haven't found a weight yet to give me issues.

Your hands slipping and them physically being unable to hold on to the weight are two different things

Many thanks for your your replies,

I actually don't use chalk and never have done...I think I can get a bag of the stuff from a climbing shop for around £3-£6 - not sure how it differs to lifting chalk though; I guess it will be the exact same stuff. What a good idea! Along with the farmers walks, dumb-bell rows, plate pinches I should do well.

From a Chinups perspective, I usually do the narrow chins, I do my BW +10kg for 8 reps and 3 sets. I'm not as good with the wides however.

My grip doesn't seem to go bad on these, but if my limit is something like 95-100kg, then it will take me a few months to reach that on my chins I think.

Many thanks once again for all your helpful replies.

Time to order some chalk, any recommended places?

Kind regards,

David

It'll be hard to tell the difference tbh. You'll think you're not able to hold the weight but it could be the fact your hands are sweaty. Using chalk will give a marked improvement for sure.

It's the same chalk. Just get it from your local climbing shop. It's £2 for a little chalk ball where I live. Prepare to have your mind blown with how easy 110kg will now feel. Your deadlift should probably instantly go up by about 20kg.

Oh, and don't ask your gym. There's a chance they may say no. Just be very tidy with it and don't leave a mess anywhere. Clean up after yourself if you make mess. Otherwise you can get liquid chalk, but it's not quite as good.

I agree with LiE here. Any moisture on your hands that allow the bar to roll will massively affect how long or well you can hold the bar for.

Many thanks for your replies,

I've seen other people use chalk - in fact there were some people doing 250kg deadlifts with a belt with perfect form. 250kg!

They were using chalk, so I don't think I should have an issue as long as I am tidy with it, and clean up after myself.

Kind regards,

David

i just keep my chalk ball inside a plastic bag, chalk my hands in the bag. This reduces mess :)

also chalk does make a massive difference, you will be suprised.

LiE i still have my normal chalk if you want to try it out any time, tbh though its pretty much equal.

I'm stuck in a Holiday Inn with a tiny mini gym (i.e. dumbells that go up to 20kg and a treadmill, rowing machine and cycle machine). That's it. :(

This is going to be fun.... Not.

Bulgarian Split Squats :p

those at 20Kg should be pretty good for a few sets. Especially if you do a slow negative

Perhaps trying pressups at different heights as well, until you're lifting straight up and down if you see what I mean

I'm staying in a Farmhouse in Poland in July, so I'm going to be eating well and doing bodyweight stuff in my room and cycling as I will be eating very well!

Or I could use it as a 5 day break, sometimes breaks are good :D

Might be posting some new photos up tonight on the thread, as I think my body fat % is better and my back symmetry too :)

Kind regards,

David
