Mentioned this happening yesterday but it was met with a "nothing wrong with Blizzard security".
I don't buy it, there is something wrong somewhere and Blizzard will deny it until it becomes an issue for everyone.

Why did this game have to have a real money auction house?
Plenty of affected people also have authenticator and text alerts on.

Lol, why did this game have a real money auction house : to stop gold selling and hacking apparently :P
Or so I remember the reason from blizz

The only reasons for the RMAH is so they can get commission for doing nothing whilst at the same time stopping a bunch of those 3rd party sites.

It's a cashcow, nothing more really.

No if you have an iphone or android phone you can get a free app.

If you don't then you will have to pay.

Also you don't "need" an authenticator it's whether you whether you believe you will be hacked or not.

I did it after i got hacked in WOW, hadn't logged in for a year or so and got an email saying my details had been changed. I had to recover the account then downloaded the app on my iphone and it's been authenticated ever since.

I'm almost certain that the hacks are all traditional keylogger hacks that are coming out of the woodwork for D3.

If you could get into someones account just from playing with them in a public game the game must be staggeringly badly coded...

Is this loss of gold and items still a problem? I read on battlenet forums that someone thinks they were hacked via the friends list.

If all the accounts are centralized they should be able to pinpoint unusual account activity such as gold coming out of no where.

As someone currently playing on a guest pass, this isn't exactly a great advert for the game. I played it last night for a few hours and enjoyed it, then it started to lag, and then I lost connection and could not log in again for the next 1/2 hour. Now talk of hacking etc.....

I would snap the game up in an instant if it wasn't for the need to be online to play sp.

Knowing from my experience the majority that got hacked is people using same password for blizzard forums, tweeter, fb, their email AND diablo 3.

It's so easy to get passes from people like this its hilarious.

Especially with all the login databases hanging around in certain places.

I'm a bit gutted I've gone through normal and nightmare and didn't get one legendary item. :p

It's legandary for a reason! ;)

Although the auction house begs to differ.

I got one on my first play through on normal, now on Act3 Hell and have yet to see another. I personally feel they should drop a lot less considering so many are up for sale.

I have someone on my friends list called aiem or something that i have never seen before and was on there from the start. I am unable to remove people from my friends list just block communication is that correct ?

As far as I'm aware you can certainly remove someone from friends list. Not able to check right now as I'm at work however.

Edit: or see below, its most likely this. It adds people in a seperate section that you have played with recently that are not on your friends list.

Is it an actual friend or someone you have recently played with?

If you go into a public game then leave, it'll create a new drop down on your friends list with recent players you have played with if they are not already a friend.

Do you sign up to the blizzard forums separately from battle.net?

I don't use a universal password but with things that are related i typically use the same one.

My eBay, Paypal and Facebook etc passwords are all different but there are a few that i use on a few things. Impossible to guess it though, i can just hope there's no sort of keylogger on my PC.

Yea the amount of people that use the same passwords for different accounts is big.

Take for example the multiplayer list. I bet some people on that list used the same password that they would on there on other places. So you could easily have a d3 forum and advertise on battlenet forums and people sign up with same details and you just harvest all their accounts.

But what i don't understand is how would someone transfer teh gold out of someones account to their own?

They would need two battlenet accounts. One for the hacked account the other for their account, then join the same game and trade all gold.
