Police or not Police?

Why would you treat a security guard with utter contempt? There are very few people in the world I treat with contempt and that doesn't normally include people just doing their job.

There's a few I would/do, and they're all doing their job. I don't mean someone marked as a security guard - I don't have any issue with that. However someone dressed up and acting like the police? Certainly. TV License salesmen? Yes. Charity muggers? Yes. Payday advance people? I can't see why I'd come into contact but yes. Homeopaths? Yes. Psychics? Yes.

Essentially anyone who relies on deception or preys on the weak to do their job.

Is the point of this survey to perhaps also highlight how difficult it is to identify a Police Officer because of so many uniform variations?

If everything was more standardised, it could be easier to tell.

That's not one of my intended outcomes, but it is a good point. There has been some standardization of uniform, but it's still far from consistent across the UK.

Another point is like to mention, if you were unsure if one of these people were police and they showed you a warrant card, would you know what it was supposed to look like?

I'm guessing a number of people would retake the test to get the highest "score" if the result was given, that would ruin the survey.

The reason I didn't give results was purely technical. I couldn't get Google docs to do it without a decent time investment, but I like your reason better :D

Where is the big nob on the top of their heads? Isnt that how you can tell a real copper from one that aint? lol :D

Interested to see the results. The vast majority looked like police to me but I have a suspicion I got a lot wrong!

PCSO count? They've got the same powers as a civilian. != Police IMO.

The powers are irrelevant. They a members of a recognised police force and are accountable through the same procedures a constable is. Anything you tell them has the same data protection, so you know that your details will be handled properly. They can also access other services which random security can't.

Their uniform is also standardised to some extent, via ACPO guidelines. My point is that they don't just make up their uniform and are proper professionals in their role.

Also, PCSOs have more powers than a civillian, they also have one or two powers that constables don't.
