OK last tweak to the boss workout.

I need to move gyms before I get filled in! I just can't handle all the idiotic things I see anymore and sooner rather than later I will have to tell someone what I think.

In the gym yesterday and as usual it's an orgy of ***** doing mongy things but this particular group bake my noodle. There's 4 of them not that impressive size but they're low %bf and with their wife beaters on, pumped up they really think they're the kiddys. They're on the adjustable benches doing chest *again* and you simply cannot move, the whole DB rack is completely empty and every single DB is on the floor. These idiots are doing sets and all insist on throwing their DB's to the floor after each set (even though there's 4 of them all spotting each other)

Anyway I stumble over, tripping over DB's and ask if I can use one of the 4 benches. As soon as I sit a 35kg DB is launched by idiot #1 after a few poor reps, missing my foot by less than a foot! So I just give the look to let him know I'm not impressed.... I pick up the 25's to warm up on Incline... then I hear a "Grab the 52's" (there are no 50's because they're broken due to retards keep throwing them about)

Now this annoys a little, as I was planning to use them but I'm interested to see this. So he lie's back on the flat bench with one 52kg DB wobbling all over the place as his mate struggles to pass the other. He lowers the weight and then not much happens (apart from lots of grunting)... his partner does the usual as he pushes his elbows in and up for him... 1... same again.... 2... then much more wobbling and shaking... half a rep as his spotting partner tires and can't help out and the DB's are just dropped and bouncing all over the place with an almighty crash.

"whoop" "Beast" "ooh he really meant that" are a few retarded comments I recall :o Yet the most telling comment was from him "I've been stuck on them ******* for months" It took every ounce of willpower to stop me saying "no your training partner has, he's not strong enough to lift them for you" :)

So I get up and pick up every single DB around my bench and put them very quietly in the DB racks, including theirs, pick up the 47.5's (no 50's you see) lie back on the Incline, set myself up and rep out 10 smooth reps in silence. I then sit up and put the DB's back in the rack... no drama

They cleared off to the BB benches without another single set being done. I would like to think that was partly down to them feeling a little bit stupid :)

Had a few guys that were just like that in my gym. They would constantly offer their advice to any blatant new guy as well. My training partner snapped at them once and I haven't seen them since. :)

I do feel for you fellas training in public, i lost faith in humanity long ago but gym bunnies take it to a whole new level. I have very little interest these days in assisting anyone nor comparing stats with idiots, much like a blonde girls snatch, its just a fruitless hole for your enthusiasm.

Yeah I see what you are saying there. People train at different intensities, yet some people don't understand that. 1 week you might be doing 60% of your 1rm for reps but the muppet next to you trying to do 120% of his 1rm with help of his friend (both struggling). You are having a more productive workout yet he thinks "wow i'm lifting loads more than him!" lol

My personal favourite lol-worthy gym observation are the guys who do barbell brocep curls with hyper back extension, using momentum generated in their back to get the bar up in the first place. Its tempting to ask them what muscle groups they think they are working, because it sure as hell aint the bicep!

also inherently we all have issues with how others perceive us, i would argue all lifters do. So even if others are not judging we may feel they are and this throws an unknown variable into training, i like my variables known.

Haha, I see that a lot on the preacher curls - people loading up their EZ bars with 2x20kg plates and hyperextending their backs so the momentum lifts it up.

I prefer to stick to 100% form and a lower weight. I tried 36.5kg once, but the ROM wasn't full (although I never used my back). 26.5kg is a good working limit for me on the EZ bar preacher curls and it means that every 7 out of my 8 reps starts to get difficult.

Kind regards,

David

I can be an advantage having people who watch you lift like a boss, sometimes you push harder.

That used to bother me, but now I can ignore it having seen a few smug faces be wiped away ;)

A recent classic: "I've never seen him lift as much as he says he can"

O RLY?!

yeah but when you repping 60% like morba says you know they arent thinking "wow what amazing smooth and strict form" they are thinking "pussy". That can screw people up.

nah, cos most people just ignore people around you when you lift.

I leave me ego at home when I lift, if people want to show off - they can. I'm not lifting for anyone but me.

I don't give a toss if someone is stronger than me, or if I'm stronger than someone, likewise I don't care if people are bigger than me or not. It's just about my own performance.

Seems like a well though out workout. I'm stealing it :p

Been looking for a new program actually

:p
It's mainly based on my experience and how my body responds in the gym. Over the years I end up dropping exercises I don't like and I stick to the better compound exercises.

I've got calves twice a week because they need to grow!

I'm getting better at not caring. Luckily where I train it's usually empty and I'm there by myself so I can just get on with it.

I must say, the previous meet helped me as well :)

Exactly how I feel. Don't care if I'm just benching the 20kg DBs for my pause press whilst the young chav lads next to me are "benching" (with muchos assistance) the 40kg despite looking half my size :)
