Diablo noob here

can someone explain what the benefits of this being an internet connection required game?

I am playing single player and having fun. Why do I need multiplayer? (genuine question, as I seem to be missing something)

Also- do people uncover the whole map or just run from one quest point to another?

No? what are you trading...i looked on there before the servers went down and it's just a mess of 1000's of the same items going at ridiculous prices...so god knows how you are selling, at least to gain a profit.

while im here is there ever going to be a steam gaurd type system for this so that it can can locked to one computer or one ip and if logged in from another machine elsewhere it locks and sends an email or mobile alert to say so?
