I'm about to spend about 6k on appliances for our new kitchen and thinking it's probably best to use a credit card to cover me in case of any problems with the transaction.
I've never had a credit card before, as a debit card has always been suffice.
So I'm after card providers known for giving a high limit if anyone can recommend one.

Cheers :)

Capital one max is £200 cashback

But you can get 13months on purchases with virgin, though RBS has 18 months, the virgin website is good, and their support is good.

You may find it hard getting a limit like that on your first credit card tbh. Best bet will be your bank. How quickly are you planning to pay it down?

Also could try Sygma bank (Creation Credit Card) - They have 0% for 13 months on purchases and tend to give higher limits than most at the moment.

Just so you know visa debit has very similar protection, but as Fox says there's very good other reasons to get a credit card.

I've tried a few in the past, debenhams, Santander (when it was Abbey) and m&s but my preferred one to date is Tesco. I was given a pretty high credit limit when I first applied and with the clubcard points I get quite a bit back. I like that you have the choice to spend in store for food or double the coupons to use online for hotels etc.

I'm sure there's a few comparison sites though where you can perhaps get a better idea on what would suit your needs

Well I do have a visa debit card and just looking at all the offers makes me think I'll just use that if that gives me protection.

However the Sygma Bank Creation Purchase Card looks ok and that offers 0% for 13 months so it could sit in my bank earning a pittance on interest, I don't believe there is a fee on this.

Why would you do that, when you can get a decent cash back.
Also read the links, there are a few differences, as well as bank monkeys not knowing about it.

Quick google says American express are doing 5% on first £2000purchases and 2.5% after that, doesn't appear to be a limit. So ~£200

Go for the cashback. For credit cards don't pick a provider based on customer service with a purchase that size.

There's no reason to go for just 1 card, split it between cashback cards. The kitchen company won't care.

I put everything on my American Express Gold Card. Just feeling the moulded plastic between my fingers makes me ache with pleasure.

Is it worth having a credit card. I'm 21 and so far have never needed one, i can manage my money and still have a few thousand left

As long as you're not a retard you should have a CC. Had a CC since I was 19, use it only for things you can pay off, and have a direct debit set up to pay off in full every month and all this CC will do is improve your credit rating allowing you to get better deals on loans, mortgages if and when the time comes.
