***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I am tempted by the flip case but only if the front is in leather, and slightly padded

Does anybody know what it is?

That pic looks like a bad shop, look at the screen size as well, that's bigger than the S3 on the left so are they saying the Korea one gets a 4.9/5" screen?!

Lol

Does look horribly fake, just wish they'd confirm local release details, you'll guys will get it before me by weeks at this rate!

Has anywhere put up replacement back covers yet, i want a black back or carbon look.

Ditto.

I can definitely live with the blue a few weeks but I rather buy a cheap black back cover asap and then shop around for some higher quality backs later. I can of like the texture feel of the back of my Milestone.

Highly unlikely...usually its only given if you order the phone online then DSR applies otherwise it doesnt.
That's my understanding, even if you order online and pick it up. So probably best to wait a bit and get it delivered in case I don't like it and want to send it back with less hassle.

My Daughter is an Olympic Torchbearer, nominated via Samsung. She carried the torch yesterday in Ludlow, and we went to the big do at Worcester cricket ground in the evening, and there was a Samsung promo stand with S3's to play with. I have to say it's a LOT nicer in the flesh to hold than the pictures suggest, feels very nice. The blue is... well blue, it looks nice enough, but the white looks very nice, and I've never said that about a phone before!
My Daughter and I had a play with them for a few minutes, they weren't very well set up (no auto-rotate for a start, and the brightness was much too low on Auto), but initial impressions were very good, the phone is very fluid to use, just wizzing through whatever you're doing, and the quick HD video I took was really very good indeed, possibly better than our Nikon S9100 at a glance.
We have two contracts ending in the next two months, we were going to go HTC One X, but I think the S3 looks to be the better phone*

* Pending a side by side comparison in a shop!

NB. The Olymic Torch carrying was just brilliant, LOCOG have the process absolutely sorted and were excellent, best day ever!

I had convinced myself that the Blue was the one to go for from the photos I've seen but now lots of people are saying the white is very nice (and then saying they never usually like white phones).

And I usually try to go for the white version of a phone...

Decided to go for it on the deal I was offered:

600 mins
unlimited SMS
1.5GB Data (includes tethering and a further 3GB WiFi from BT hotspots)
£24.99 for handset

£18/month
24 months

This changes me from my Flext35 deal I am currently on. The only difference in calls is I lose International calls from my allowance. In order to keep my current PP I would have had to pay £329 for the phone. I have never phoned international in the 12 years I have owned a mobile. I can't see that changing TBH.

I went with Pebble Blue. The white looks ok but I feel it is too flashy and makes it look like a toy.

See i think the blue version looks more "toy" like, and im swaying towards the white version

Personal preference I guess.... I have only ever seen a white iPhone and a white HTC Sensation both of which initially look ok but kinda cheap-ish as well.... TBH, I will be getting a bumper cover (probably the light grey Rock one) so you won't see it as much.

Richie - looks like t mobile are trying to get us off flext and 18mth contracts. My last deal was blinding.

Agreed. The same deal on 18 months would cost me £100 for the phone. TBH the 24 month doesn't faze me. I thought I was on a 24 month already but it turned out to be 18 months. I have had the HTC Desire for over 2 years and it's been great. Pre-Smartphone time, upgrades were quick due to new-ish tech but nowadays, if you want your phone to do other stuff, you just download an app :p

As I said, the only disadvantage I see from Flext to the new plan is the removal of International calls coming from my allowance. Never used it before and most probably won't use it in the future, at least not to the extent that it will cost me tons.

I never use 600 mins
I have unlimited SMS so no probs there
My data FUP increases from 500MB to 1.5GB
08 numbers are still included in allowance (0800, 0808, 0844, 0845, 0870 etc) albeit I use http://www.saynoto0870.com anyway :p

Most importantly, I still get to keep my F&F discount. As mentioned, this is the old F&F discount which I have for life and not the new one which expires when the employee leaves. I assume this is the same one you have? I would be NUTS to give this up.

To say no to my deal would have been silly. The Desire has been a great phone but it is now being limited for apps due to storage and tech restrictions (some games etc are not compatible). The Desire, IMHO, will always be considered as the Android phone that kicked it all off properly.

May I ask what your last deal was to tempt you off of Flext and are you taking it/thinking about taking it? :p

Ordered one in white for the wife, it will be an upgrade from her white S2 which I sold over a month ago. I ordered on T-Mob but I will keep the contract and she can have the phone.

I am currently on O2 PAYG and I get:

500 txts
1GB net
£9 worth of calls (not much at all)
Total: £15 per month

I have my PAC code and I am ready to transfer. On T-Mob I will pay £11 extra and will get:

unlimited txts
750mb net
300 mins
Total: £26 per month

This works out overall a bit better for me with the unlimited txts and 300 xnet mins, I should manage fine with the 750mb since I was on 500mb for a long time, plus we are getting wifi at work next week.

On the above T-Mob deal, I got the S3 handset for only £20 (with £30 cashback). I will use the sim in my Galaxy Note, on a 24 month contract and the wife has a shiny new phone with her own sim in it.

is this any good

O2 £36 On & On
Unlimited cross-network mins + Unlimited Texts + 1GB Mobile Internet Browsing + UK Wi-Fi via O2 & BT Openzone + Priority Moments • 24 months
£ 36.00 a month

+ 65 cash back

Be wary of O2 their 3G coverage is rotten, Ive just terminated a contract with them because its almost pointless having a smartphone with no data signal, even it cities it sucks, in central scotland your rarely see "H" and if you have "3G" is drops to "E" or "G" as soon as your try to do anything

I have a 3 mifi dongle that blows O2 out the water data wise everywhere I use it but why should i have to carry 2 devices around

Luckily i can just recycle/sell my SII for the same price as the termination cost and start again, Shame i think the SIII is too big for what i want

+1 on the O2 3g issue, utter garbage

Same, was a bit wary of swapping to 3 after being with O2. Get 3G everywhere now, even places O2 used to get just G i get H with full signal.

Anyone getting this on t mobile should check out Chitter chatter as they are giving away the wireless hdmi box with pre orders. They take care of F&F discount too.

Only in white!

There is a report on the main Dutch tech website, Tweakers.net, saying that the GS3 will only be available in white on release date...

http://tweakers.net/nieuws/82171/galaxy-s-iii-voorlopig-alleen-in-wit-wegens-productieproblemen.html

I am adding a Google translation, don't have time to do a proper one now.

Samsung will be the introduction of the Galaxy S III, later this month, only the white version in the stores make. The company has detected problems with the back of the blue edition, which therefore fall behind in production.

Samsung's newest flagship is already on sale in several countries including the United Arab Emirates, but only in white. The blue version is still missing and several stores that accept pre-orders, also indicate when introducing only the white version to deliver.

The reason is a problem with the manufacture of the blue version, let an anonymous source Tweakers.net know. One problem with the quality of the back of the smartphone Samsung would have to decide to have produced six hundred thousand blue edges behind to throw away and the production process to adjust.

Samsung Benelux confirms the mouth of PR Manager Vivian Peters that the unit at the Dutch release on May 29th only in white will be available. The blue versions, however, would soon have to follow the company expected in stores in early June. Or postponement of the blue variant is due to production problems, did not confirm the company.

I had to use Google Cache to view the review, which was odd since the website isn't down.

Nice review though, short and sweet.

One of my contracts end in September - I have 2 on the legacy F&F.

I'm on Flext40 18mths - free SGS2 so £360 all in. Great deal that was.

So come upgrade time I just want a good deal on a 18mth contract.
