Finally can afford an SSD, but which one???

I reckon prices are going to drop even further in the coming weeks.
Waiting & watching to see if the Crucial M4 128gb or the 256gb version gets any cheaper.
 
Forgot to mention that Crucial seem pretty "on the ball" when it comes to firmware updates.

Mind you, my advice should be taken with a degree of caution. I was under the impression that Intel SSDs were very reliable, and that their service was very good. Now, I know that lady luck tends to have her say, so when my Intel SSD gave up a couple of weeks ago I wasn't too concerned (but I was a bit suprised). My drive arrived back today, I was without it for 10 days. Not terrible, but the trip to Holland meant that I suffered a HDD for a few more days than I would have wanted.

Possible, but you never know. Look what's happened to HDD prices. OK, the weather was the factor, but ever decreasing tech prices are not so certain as they were a few years ago.

No doubt we'll see 1TB SSDs @ < £200 eventually, but it might not be a one way direction for prices in the shorter term.

yup they will do but so will most other stuff in the same period

bang for buck etc still think its m4 for a month or 2

how long do you want to wait sometime youve go to say sod it

and press click buy

im gonna try a vertex or a samsung soon tho i think
 
Intels get a very good write up nearly everywhere and on forums people rate them for speed and importantly reliability and support but often very little mention in general. Any reason ?

Probably because Intel ones are expensive compared to the M4. Looking to upgrade my 128GB to the 256GB M4 as they have dropped in price quite a bite..

Especially now that intel is using the same controllers as everyone else (ie sandforce), so that just leaves the NAND itself for their supposed reliability increase. And, oh wait, that's the same as Micron (aka Crucial) as they work together on NAND (or did at least, I think Micron very recently bought intel's share of their NAND collaboration, so now it's just Micron's).

You mean SSD's in general?

Well not all are created equal, and as is discussed most often, the Crucial m4 has the best track record for reliability and shouldn't cause you any problems. Also Samsung is very well known for reliability in the business sector, so in theory the Samsung 830 is very reliable, its just it hasn't been around long enough to know for sure, but I haven't heard any problems with it so far.

yer price a mate just bought one and he loves it tho but its his first so i guess cant compare after all .. all of us when we get an ssd go wooooooah awesome cause we comapre to hdd but i think generally of intels wer echeaper more would go for them tbh

i got crucial and it may seem a trivial thing cause its in a hot swap bay and i cant even see it but i hate the color scheme .. samsungs and intels look awesome...
