***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Enough. I want this damn phone in my hands.

People in Dubai are reporting battery life of 15 hrs with 3.5 hrs screen on. And I'm going to say moderate to heavy use 'cuz I know they'll be playing with their phones loads at the beginning. Not Razr Maxx levels but it's great that manufacturers are focusing on battery life.

That isn't all that great, though it depends what they were doing.

We already know the blue looks different in bright lighting, especially that of a shopping mall and retail store though!

I had a good look at it - Imo it will never look as dark as in the photo's. Unless your in a very dark room of course - where even the white would look black.

No mention of what modes people are using, was CPU clock control enabled? Was power saving enabled? Was anything else disabled? Was 3G used or WiFi?

People always forget the essential information.

Well I would assume they would have been playing with their brand new device extensively to a point where you could classify usage as 'heavy'...

Plus it was on first charge! And no firmware updates etc. Image what it be like when there's optimization and tweaking.

What did you do when you first got the One X and how much screen on time did you get plus total battery? I doubt it was 3 hrs screen on.

I want the S3 to be considerably better than that. It should be.

25% still with 3 hrs 21 min screen on is a bit better though, right?

And to quote emorej:

yeah its good heavy usage, now im on 13% 16hr and 11min, watching video,on wifi, weather emails auto syched

Just need to know what the brightness was vs your 30% etc.

Indeed, but that's 15 hours vs 28 too.

I'm fully expecting the Galaxy S III to be better by a comfortable margin, but the original stats you posted weren't particularly impressive. I didn't think so, anyway.

comparing screen brightness between different phones in % is very inaccurate - they will be calibrated differently - and it's 330 vs 550 cd/m2 @ 100%.

Both true but what I know is that the screen on last longer than pretty much every smart phone bar the Maxx.

And Robbo, I'm assuming the phone was on standby when you slept for a while too. emorej could probably have the screen on for at least another 30 minutes watching a vid and then keep it on standby for the rest of the time till it dies which will also be very like 28 hours.

Anyone put an order down on one of these yet?

Even though I have been a TMO customer for coming on 5 years now, they cant give it to me for less than £36 p/m free handset. I can get it cheaper than that going via a 3rd party. The TMO retentions dude I spoke to was trying to tell me that 3rd party supplier phones are less reliable, and will take longer on warranty claims etc, which sounds like rubbish.

So stay with TMO direct, or get it down to a more sensible £31 p/m and free with a 3rd party?

The difference being TMO has unlimited minutes, sms and data, where as 3rd party has 300 minutes, unlimited sms, and 1.5gb data (which i will 99% of the time stay within anyways).

no idea, although am around wifi most of the time anyways, so as long as i have 1gb or over just in case I'm not too fussed. generally cant get 3g anyways when I need mobile data

I'm talking speeds - they used to limit 3rd party to 384Kb/s as opposed to 3.75Mb/s.

yeah I know i just meant I cant get 3g most of the time anyways so i'd rather have data than speed. and thats still better than the speed i get on my home broadband until they enable fibre on my local cabinet :p

Do T-Mobile still gimp the internet speeds when bought through 3rd party retailers?

Yes, and even if you call them and request it to be removed they either claim ignorance or say they'll remove it and don't. Shame as network coverage they have been better than both O2 and orange but their data speed is terrible. Hoping voda are better
