***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Right bit of a late reply but ive been out and about today with the missus...went to see the Dictator and just got back now. Highly recommend the movie, i was in absolute stitches for most of the movie, think its got to be one of the funniest movies i have seen this yr but be warned its very inappropriate so if your easily offended then stay away.

Anyhowwwwwwwwwww ended up meeting the missus at Westfield in white city earlier this evening and thought id go and check the Samsung pop up store they have in the middle of the shopping centre. Quite a nice little setup with glass rooms with lots of people milling around. There was a girl there giving a demo to the crowd about certain features of the phone. It was very busy and didnt give me much to time to have a play with the SGS3 but i did manage to get hold of one for about 10mins, they had both blue and white models.

Anyhow after seeing it in the flesh so to speak, i was quite impressed by the look and feel of the SGS3...both blue and white dont look that bad in the flesh compared to some of the pics that are circulating around the internet at the moment. I had one of the reps showing me various things about the phone, pulled out my One X to compare it and i found the One X slightly taller but the SGS3 slightly wider than the One X.

The software and touchwizz launcher seem to work pretty well, loved the video overlay bit where you can send off a quick text whilst watching a video...that was pretty neat i found. Scrolling through the menus is pretty smooth and quick, didnt find any sort of lag on the phone.

Like i said i had a quick 10mins or so with the phone and i have to say i was quite impressed by it. So im now seriously considering selling the One X and getting a SGS3...my cousin is after my One X, said he will give me £350 for it so i suppose i can use that and put some extra towards the SGS3.

But based on first impressions, i actually preferred the SGS3 over the One X. But before i pull the trigger, ill wait till the hype dies down then go and play with one properly and then make my final decision. Couldnt get a real chance to play with one today as it was very very busy down at the Samsung pop up shop in Westfield.

But all in all its not that bad looking a device really, pics do not do it justice imho. I'll also add that i dont think the SGS3 in any way, shape or form is worth the £550 that it will be selling for the 16gb model...its a lot of money for a phone thats literally made out of plastic...as much as i liked the SGS3, i dont think its a premium phone at all but thats my opinion...for that sort of money, it should have had a metal frame, chassis or maybe glass like the iphone4/4s. So i dont think the arguement that iphones are expensive holds up anymore against the SGS3 when the SGS3 sells for the same price of an iphone4s now and is nowhere premium made like the iphone4/4s, which to this day i think is a lovely looking device. Ive said it before in a thread on here that its a shame more phone manufacturers dont take a leaf out of Apple and use some premium materials to make phones especially if they are going to be selling it close to £600:p.

Nice one Spawn, I'm looking forward to trying one myself.

The design seems a very Marmite thing, but I think everyone is in agreement that at best it's 'good' and nothing more. A shame really because if they'd made the phone look a bit prettier and made TouchWiz look a bit better, it would have been a clean sweep!

Yep definitely Robbo, im not saying its a badly made phone, i liked the feel of it in my hand much like the One X...like you said its a marmite thing, some people will love it, some wont and other will be meh about it ie im firmly in the 3rd category tbh.

But my sore point is the price they are charging for the phone ie off contract...i dont think its worth the £550 pricetag and that for a 16gb model...yes it has an sd card but still if it was priced at say £450 then £500 for the 32gb and £600 for the 64gb versions then id definitely jump at getting one. At the moment, not sure if its worth the price and thats my main gripe with the phone...plus im sure they would sell a bucketload at £450 but im not in charge of pricing so what do i know:p.

Touchwizz isnt that bad looking in all honesty, of course where i felt it lost out was compared to the prettiness of Sense for instance. I love it when i press the top button on my One X and i get a nice little weather animation. Whereas the touchwizz weather app doesnt look that nice compared to the Sense one. But i know you can get different weather widgets etc.

But like i said this is based on 10mins with the phone...i didnt really get a chance to delve into the settings etc but im hoping to when the hype dies down, have a samsung store in westfield stratford near where i live so i can always pop in there in a few weeks time and properly play with one where i can mess with the settings and see whats what etc.

Though I do agree for £500 it's too expensive expensive and I'd much rather pay £450-£480. Having said that, a 64GB iPhone 4S which was release over half a year ago is selling for £700. My 16+64GB S3 is in total £545. So yes, the 4S is still ridiculously over priced. And I will be willing to challenge my colleagues at work with a concrete drop test any day of the week S3 vs 4S to see what a 'premium build' quality truly handles.

Nobody would argue that the all plastic phone would win a drop test. But those of us not in the habit of dropping phones would like a phone that both looks and feels expensive for that price. Expect that is what he means by premium.

went into my local o2 store yesterday and was told that some of the management have already got there hands on the new SG3 but when i ask to "look" at one before i thought about pre-ordering one... the guy quickly declined and swiftly changed subject to my current price plan. something tells me that there that the phones have already started being shipped out to shops

Basically thats it, i have never ever dropped any of my phones and that includes my iphone4 that i had before i sold it. But after holding a SGS3 in my hands last night and comparing it to the iphone4/4s...i would say the SGS3 is in no way a premium phone compared to the iphone4/4s.

Like i said its a shame that other manufacturers dont take a leaf from the apple designers.

Damn gadget lust...
Keep checking this thread and the mobile feeds just in case there is any new news and hoping that I will still get the blue phone on Wed..
Vodafone haven't posted anything about delays, so hopefully not long now..

Note on Samsung Galaxy SIII Availability:
We have been made aware that there may be a slight delay in the arrival of some Samsung Galaxy SIII stock into the UK. We will keep you informed of any new information as soon as we receive it. People have reported that Amazon.de are saying orders could be delayed by 1 to 2 week 'due to bottlenecks in production'. And Three's site says out of stock for the blue, still pre-order on the white.
