**TRULY CRAZY WEEKEND ONLY DEALS - GRAPHICS CARDS! (UPTO £100 SAVING!!)**

gibbo could you honestly tell me if you think the prices of the 7970 lightning may go down over time, i wouldn't mind having one and putting it under water, it's just that the blocks aren't out yet..so i'd have to wait.

Or would it be wise to buy one now..

ty

Check my earlier post, waterblocks are due very soon for these cards ;)

I'd snag one now at this price, even on a today/week only deal I doubt we are going to see £70 shaved from these cards again any time soon. I actually thought the most they would take off the Lightning would be £50 to take it to £400.

Were they not at that price a couple of weeks back? Some time around when the VTX OC model was causing a bit of a stir. I was about to buy one but ended up passing thinking that was going to be their price anyway.

Saw what they were today and having only sent my 670 back recently for DSR I thought I would go for it, or at least I copied my brother and ordered the last 2 for us both.

i dont have a watercooled system...how much would a kit + block cost?

i'd probably only have £160 to spare after the card purchase

Can't remember the Lightning being on offer, but to be fair I've only really had my eye on it as of late, I do remember when the VTX OC model was on offer though.

I do hope they come on offer again as I wouldn't mind a second for CF later down the line :)

Traditionally £80 for block, £20 for backplate, though I'm not sure how EK are going to approach the backplate with that 'reactor core' in the way, perhaps they will just utilise the provided backplate.

Rest of the WC kit depends on what case etc... you have, head over to the WC sub-forum, I'm sure cleeecooo and the guys over there will spec you up :)

I'm really tempted by the 7950.
Only problem is my mobos other PCIe slot is only at x4
I'm considering getting one of these now though while on offer and upgrading mobo later.

I take it I'd notice a significant hit crossfiring one card at x16 and the other at x4 but would I notice any improvement at all? Would it be worth plugging both in even?

Also am I right in thinking Crossfire can be any 2 cards of the same series?
So I could get a 7970 to go with my current 7950?

Or is that just asking for trouble?

Im doing this atm mate 16x 4x 7950 cf running at 2560 x 1440 i brought the 7950 with the plan of getting a new mb but its sweet in all fairness bf3 all ultra 2x msaa at 2560 x 1440 vysnc at 60 fps and doesnt move (both cards running 1100/1500.benchmarks unique gets 3457 and 3d mark gpu score of about 15000.

as far as i can tell 4x should nottle neck it but how i dont know as it runs sweet as a nut

Cheers for the reply Whitestar.

I've searched for info on this before but this is the first definitive answer I've had thanks dude.

I have the normal Sapphire 7950 at the moment, I'm not to certain with Crossfire but it shouldn't matter if I got the VTX one should it? Or is it better to get 2 of the same card?

Also is it possible to crossfire a 7950 and 7970?

It makes no odds as long as both 7 series cards but if u get the 7970 it will run slower to match the 7950 so pointless tbh just grab another 7950 any brand I brought two matching sapphires but one is 950 out the box one is 900 both now clocked at 1100 temps wise top card in the 70s bottom 60 odd

Also check if your mb shares bandwidth on the 4x slot mine did with pci 3 and 4 so had to move my wireless card to slot one not an issue to me but something u should check also what psu do u have, I have both running on a 650w which is low compared to what people recommend but what matters is the juice on the 12v rail I have never had an issue even overclocked with cpu and both cards voltages up , the only reason I am going to change in future is for piece of mind

I assume we're talking PCI-E Gen2?

Depending on the game there can be quite a difference operating with the second card operating at x4 speed.

This test is for the HD 6950 but I wouldn't have thought the HD 79xx series would be any better.
