Labour has condemned the way the government has dealt with planned VAT rises on Cornish pasties and static caravans as a "total shambles", following a reversal of the plans.

The best quite here, is from a female MP, and is as follows:

Sheryll Murray, Conservative MP for South East Cornwall, said: "I told the government that I didn't want to see an army of thermometer-wielding tax inspectors poking our pasties and that I was really concerned about the vagaries of ambient temperature. They listened."

Rejoice oh fellow pasty lovers! :D

Meh...

So a u-turn is a shambles, yet carrying on with it was also a shambles.
The logic of the opposition never fails to astound me.

This is what annoys me most in politics, when an act that is openly and widely known to be the incorrect course of action is followed through just to avoid the embarrassment of a u-turn. I'd much prefer people actually realise when they're wrong and own up, then changing course for the better result. It pains me to see so many people ripping into Nick Clegg for going back on his promises, when really all that's happened is he's since realised that the stuff he "promised" is completely impossible. Whether he knew that all along is a different matter.

Nice,

I am going to celebrate later by buying a few ginsters :)

Then push them all in my mouth, at the same time

fair play to the government for deciding to change there decision, lesson to be learned by labour in case they ever get back into power.

i'm just amazed some politicians have actually used some common sense, does this mean the end of the world is close at hand ....................

Something being overlooked in the media at the moment is that while they have scrapped this tax they have put up the tax on landfill so the price of a skip has doubled overnight from what I've heard. Guess that means more fly tipping and another hit on the construction industry which is struggling as it is.
