Antec Kuhler 620 cooled Nvidia GTX670 + overclock results (pics inside)

I bought a palit GTX670 and didn't like the stock fan noise from the card. I found it very annoying.

I already had 1 kuhler 620 on my cpu and was happy with the performance. After reading online I decided to cool the GTX670 with another Kuhler 620.

The card with the fan shroud off - it's tiny!

The cables have been tidied since these pics were taken...

Running fractal fans in a R3 case on both kuhlers in push pull config. The GTX670 kuhler fans are running at full speed.

I'm also running a fractal 140mm fan at full speed under the card to cool the VRM's. I've left the stock heatsink there.

I've seen temps go from 81 Deg C at full tilt on the stock cooler go to 61 Deg C with the kuhler.

Card is also boosting to 1097Mhz without me touching it.

I'll be looking for some better fans soon though as the fractal fans don't push a lot of air at all. Quiet, yes - but I'm sure there are fans just as quiet that push more air. Once I get some better fans I may start to play with overclocking. :)

Thoughts....

Overclocking results.... as per Heaven 3.0 thread settings

8% performance increase over stock

As far as the card will go. Prob not bad for a reference model.

Temps never got over 63Deg C, I just couldn't get it to run stable at any higher clocks.

Nice! This is something I wish would be developed... I've got the 620 too and would love to get a GPU based version for my 6970. That looks good dude :)

A bit fiddly to get the cooler mounted on the card. You can get special mounting plates for them etc, but tbh the cable ties more than do a good enough job at holding it in place as can be seen by the temps.

If I get another 670 down the line to run SLI I'll be doing the same with that. Only thing is I'll need a case where the HD cages can be removed to fit another Kuhler in. Unless I simply drilled the cages out that are there.

^^ Funny that such a tiny card can beat the 7970 in some performance :p.

Im gonna be using this method to cool my 480's soon, but using a bracket, just waiting for it to arrive then I can get mine under water aswell. Need to in this weather !!

I'm doing the same thing with my 7950. Didn't realise I needed a copper shim for it though :(

I'm now making up a plate with threaded holes so I can bolt it to the card, Ive not much faith in cable ties.

Great job though, bet its a lovely quiet rig now

I've seen these mods on Overclock.net, nice to see someone in the UK doing it too. A nice 20 degree drop in temps too. As for fans Scythe GT AP-15's without a question. Or if you were lucky to bag a 120mm 2150 rpm version then that is more preferable as it pushes more air and is only 1db louder.

My only concern would be that the heatsink near the front of the card won't be getting any airflow over it now. Does anyone know what's underneath it?

The price of the Accelero Hybrid made me look for cheaper alternatives.

I ordered this today OcUK H²Flo Extreme Liquid Dual Fan CPU Cooler after reading the overclock.net guide. The double thick radiator should give us some cooling oomph.

I have a GTX 580 going to try it on. I thought about ordering the bracket from the US but going to use cable ties although my brother could probably knock up a bracket for me. As I have a reference cooler going to hack that and cut a hole out for the pump to fit in and use the fan for VRM cooling.

Holidays coming up so perfect time for some experimenting.
