The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I have just started to download the game for the 1st time, (eve online Incarna) what tips or advice can anyone give to a total noobie? Any help would be much appreciated!

Tips for a newbie:
Don't join FW. I think it tries to join you up at some point during the tutorial. Join in a month or two if you fancy it but not during your first couple of weeks.

If you take stuff out of a container (wreck or can (has an icon like this in your overview - <>)) belonging to another player their whole corp can then shoot you.

Pick one race to train for and stick with it. All four races will do you OK for the initial period.

Read everything really carefully when you do any trading or contracts.

Don't buy anything through the trade window.

Right click->Show Info on everything especially take notice of the prerequisites.

Never use the trade window ever (default behavior is different to what you'd expect and it used to be exploitable with 3rd party programs tho not sure if thats still the case) - get stuff via the market or contracts (and read contracts really carefully - as a new player never ever accept a contract thats spammed in the system local channel).

While it takes some of the intrigue out of the game early on I'd reccomend using EFT to work out ship fits as it will save a lot of time, effort and ISK.

Especially Damien... xD

Ah sweet.

I was always wary in case something happened so I can happily pick away at abandoned cans (or at least those not being closely minded) and laugh away with my ill gotten gains free of consequence?!

Bonus! :D

Well you still get an aggro timer from taking from other peoples cans. But if there is no-one around - well you're fine for 15 mins (or however long the timer is)

Theres a pretty bad bug as well with the inventory where you get spammed with "Action Failed" messages some of which you can't close - usually crashes the client but sometimes it just stops you being able to click on anything else - had it happen earlier while my ship was moving and it carried on moving with me unable to do anything but ctrl+q could easily have lost my ship due to it.

That is a bad one, wonder how long before a fix is out?

I'm completely sucked into Eve again, it's fantastic! Going the Explorer route this time and managed to locate my first wormhole earlier today, really like using the probes so I'm sure that's the kinda career I'm gonna build. What kind of signatures etc do you think is best to look for as newbie explorer? I can mine too, so maybe I'll focus on Gravimetric for the moment..

Also thanks to whomever it was in the OCUK channel that sent me some ISK to get me started! Helped massively. Who do I speak to for an inv to the Corp?
