I am looking for a place to rent and wanted to know where the cheapest place to live is that is within 30 minutes walk of Monument tube station.

Probably a 2 bed but maybe a 1 bed. Just looking for the areas to search and ill do my own research from there.

The shorter the walk, the better.

Thanks.

Southwark
Borough
Bethnal Green
Whitechapel
Shoreditch
Wapping (expensive, but the best)

None of the areas, apart from Wapping are really up to much. I'd rather make the sacrifice and travel in via tube from further out.

When I first worked in Monument/Bank I lived in Pimlico. Loved it.

Why 30 mins walk? You really going to walk in the middle of Winter?

What sort of budget do you have?

As to what mac says, a flat in Pimlico would cost you minimum £1100pm. Shoreditch about £900.

I would much rather pay the extra £200 a month.

But then I'd have the expense of trains. My thinking is that I would rather be more central and not have to buy a season ticket....or do you think it would work out the same?

Ideally less than 30 mins...and yes, I would walk in the middle of winter.

Not really thought much about budget....I take it those prices are for 1 bed apartments.

Shoreditch 900pm for a 1 bed place is pushing it a lot. 2 bed place will have to be a dump.

1100pm for a 1 bed place in Shoreditch is more sensible. What you really have to remember is that Shoreditch is a 10-15 minute walk from the City of London.

I don't know about Pimlico but I'd be amazed if you could get a flat for 1100pm.

2bed flat within 30mins _or less_ walking of Bank/Monument.

bwahahahhahhaha

This has got to be a wind up.

You do realise that you are talking for a couple grand a month, or more, for that, don't you? I don't think you do.

How about you revise that request to:
studio flat within 1h by tube from Monument/bank. Then you may get something around the £700-800 mark.

don't forget council tax and service charges that some do not include in the rent. Also, bills+internet etc.

edit: almost forgot, I hope you're not looking to rent before/during the Olympics.

@OP you do not want the cheapest place within 30 mins walk... would likely be located in the Islamic Republic of Tower hamlets - London's very own small third world country.

I'd strongly suggest utilizing public transport and finding somewhere within a 30 minute commute - essentially a large part of zone 1, zone 2 and parts of zone 3...

Live in Camden. Its got a very good vibe. Ideally around primrose hill, which is lovely - yet walking distance to the awsomeness of camden town.

Also take the tube. You dont wanna be living in the east or south. They are dumps.

Xenophobic much?

OP, almost everywhere affordable and interesting in London is outside Zone 1; do not get hung up on living near the centre. I'd suggest looking at Brixton, Brockley, Highbury & Islington, Finsbury Park and Deptford. You'll have to take the train from all of them to get to work, but the cost of the Z1-2 travel card (just over £1,000 a year) will be more than paid for by the savings in rent.

Camden sucks and is full of morons. It's the fully commercialised version of Shoreditch, which is also rubbish.

Shoreditch is not cheap, nor is Borough - but very good locations (v fun)

Bethnal and Whitechapel are a cheap bet.

£900 pm for a 1 bed is pushing it in Shoreditch, that or it will be awful. Shoreditch is an amazing place to live, so much going on, if you are young its the place to live.

I agree with living close to the centre, its so much better - you do so much more and save a fortune in travel (both work and when you go out).

Personally Id avoid Wapping, Kennington - holes. However if you dont mind the area go for it. Bethnal green seems the optimum, relatively ok area, relatively close, relatively cheap.

If you read The Evening Standard, they did a story to day to say that Walthamstow is the best place to rent in London :P
