This has allways got my back up,players who dive into a game then rush to finish it as soon as possible.

Example, skipping cut scenes on first play(valuable story driven content)

Doing the main part of a game say a quest and missing all the side missions/mini games etc.

Looking on the internet for savegame files to skip levels.

You could argue that players are more casual these days and simply do not have the time anymore to get totally involved with a game.

Thoughts please:)

It ruins the experience for me if I don't take time to fully enjoy everything it has to offer. I very rarely skip anything unless it's a 2nd, 3rd, or more playthrough (even then I don't always skip cutscenes and such) - I start to feel guilty in a way. It is a bit annoying to sometimes see friends on my list zooming through the game and asking why I'm still trailing behind - I like to take it slow and really enjoy it to the fullest :)

Well,

I rush through the single player mostly on easy nowadays (don't skip cutscenes mind) mostly as i've got a nagging, game playing hating missus who thinks me playing video games in what spare time I have is a waste of human life..

so, for me, I rush through games as I want to play as MANY games as I can in the little time I have before the pro nag who hates video games has another go at me..

and this is with me playing games on a laptop on the sofa next to her so as she doesn't nag about me not being around..!!

In fact, its maybe easier to play my games at work - which I do sometimes lol

I dont usually rush games, unless they are bad.

Dues X HR which im currently playing, Im just trying to ge through it as soon as possible.

Not a very good game at all... :o

That game was amazing for nostalgia (I had the original back at release) :D I had to explore every nook and cranny to find every easter egg. If the AI wasn't so retarded it would have been a lot more fun, it just felt like it was taking the **** even on the hardest setting.

I must admit I used to be one of those fiends, it was not until I got back into PC gaming early last year that I slowed down and now take as long as possible as I seem to enjoy the games on a whole new level.

I do this in MMOs. I'll skip all of the story/any quest text just to be one of the first to hit cap.

While I've never been bothered about people power levelling in the early days of a new MMO (or a new server of an existing one), I always wondered how they do it.

While playing Swtor I could maybe hit two or three proper levels in a day, wheras some dudes were hitting the 50 cap in 4 days or less.

I think people have wildly different ideas as to what a "casual gamer" is.

A casual gamer could be someone who doesn't play as many games, but plays games normally (in smaller chunks). He might even put in more hours than average per game, but he'll only play and complete a handful each year.

A casual gamer could also be someone who just wants to experience the story, and doesn't care to grind or do the optional/achievement related bits. You could say this player was refining the game experience to only include the very best bits.

But a gamer who doesn't watch cut-scenes, care about the story OR want to play the game properly?

No, if there is genuinely someone like that they are a "gamer" at all. "Game collector" would be more accurate.

That person might as well just watch a play-through on YouTube. Actually that's something I've started doing myself. Given that I'm not going to get through all the games I'm interested in, the ones I'm not sure about I'll now head to YT and watch someone else playing them.

But I think it's reasonable to exercise caution when talking about "casual gamers", since that term is too broad to have a real meaning.

I used to rush through games on the PS3 just to get the platinum trophy. A lot of games required you to do 100% of something but I just played to get the trophy and did not really enjoy it. Now that I have gone back to the PC I have become much more relaxed and take my time completing and enjoying the game.

The only time I would skip the story or side quests is if it was a bad game but wanted to finish it anyway. Mass Effect was just amazing and I watched evey cutscene and went through every diaglog option because it was so engrossing.

woot its a great game - i rush through games pretty much, i do watch cutscenes etc but generally i wont spend forever finding a tiny secret that has zero effect on the game / story overall - for example in me3.

People who play (and claim to like) puzzle based games and then Google the solution to anything that requires an ounce of thought!!:rolleyes:

Never rush games these days , i hardly finish them.

Or recent DRM games which need online connection to work or fail to work (D3) :P

It comes down to enjoyment however.

There are games like (going back a bit here) Ripper, where, to complete some of the later puzzles, you needed to be some sort of Columbo/Morse/Miss Marple hybrid. In that case an internet guide was what stopped my from throwing the PC out of the window!

I do sometimes but not often. The problem for me is that there are just too many games I want to play.

I know the feeling, but still don't rush the games.

I intend on playing..

Diablo 3,
All Stalkers,
Metro 2033,
Fallout 3 & New Vegas,
Amnesia (Lost save),
GTA Episodes,
Alan Wake American Nightmare,
LIMBO,
All Batman games,
Bulletstorm,
All Crysis games,
Deus Ex,
Just Cause 2,
LA Noire,
Mafia 2,
Mass Effect 1 & 2,
Serious Sam 3 (Lost save).

Most of which I either got from Steam during some sort of sale. DAMN those christmas sales! :(
