Trip to New York

I'd take a maximum of $200 in cash, as a 'just in case'.

$200 - $300 id say they use cash a lot more than cards in america, they don't even use chip and pin and signing for things is a pain, I was surprised when I went to NYC in feb, i thought they would have at least embraced NFC better than here

Thanks guys.

One last thing, I want to be able to use my iPhone out there for Internet etc.. and checking things on the move (so data is important)

Is there a SIM card that you guys can suggest that would allow me to do this?

Forget data usage, it's expensive and not worth the bother given half the networks wont work with your phone when literally everywhere has free wifi. You are never more than a 4 minute walk from Starbucks or McDonalds both of which have free wifi.

Absolutely untrue. Infact it couldnt be more wrong. Card is king. Pretty much the ONLY place you'll ever use cash is buying a drink at a bar or tipping somebody for carrying bags. Everything else - from a 50c soda upwards - is card. The fact they dont use chip and pin makes card usage even easier. For cheap stuff you just swipe and go...

On my last two trips to the USA I arrived with $10 in my wallet and withdrew perhaps $60ish from ATM's on a decent travel credit card over the period I was there. You just don't need cash. Card is king.

My Halifax Clarity card was approved the other day :D

Purely applied for this!

The best way to travel is to just walk everywhere. When we stayed our hotel was the next block over from the empire state and we walked everywhere and found so many cool places to eat, drink and shop.
