For a start off,not everyone gets paid bank holidays,do stop the gloating that you do get extra paid days off,ban all bank holidays and get back to work peasants.

Surely it's the peasants that have to work on bank holidays? :D

Get a proper job.

That's because our Royal Family IS German :D

Well, actually it isn't.

The House of Hanover took the throne in 1714 and since then every monarch has been born in the country. The last German blood in the line was Prince Albert, the great-great-grandfather of the Queen. That would make her 1/16 German and, er, 15/16 British.

you know what he meant.......

why do we have to even bother having days off for her coronation having a monarch now is pointless she doesn't play a part in our polotics or running of the country she is just there to look nice she can't do anything in relation to the countries political affairs

A small piece about why having the Royal Family is a good thing...

The Queen still has overall power of the UK, Commonwealth Realms and overseas territories, granted she doesn't handle day to day running, but, if something happens she can/will step in and take over. Remember she can disband Parliament and the Government at any moment.

Fireworks...

WTF!!

All this Jubilee does is give people an excuse to let fireworks off and get drunk = Trouble

thats not a good thing, parliament is democratically elected by us the people, why should the monarchy be able to disband it, thats not democratic, you just proved my argument about the monarchy having no place in decent democratic society ;)

Isn't this treason or something?

The most recent amendments to the Treason Act of 1351 include this: "when a man doth compass or imagine the death of our lord the King, or of our lady his Queen or of their eldest son and heir"

Does "imagine" count for that? LIFE IMPRISONMENT!

It's really sad how unpatriotic this country is at the moment. Many other countries are proud of themselves and have a deep knowledge of their long histories and politics. This place doesn't, and we have one of the richest histories there is. In fact a lot of people think it's wrong and offensive to be patriotic. Idiots.

What is sad is how patriotism gets forced down everyone's throats, whether they want it or not. How the hell can I 'love' and feel 'proud' of a place I had no choice in being born there in the first place? Saying that, I'm not a hater but all the same I feel totally indifferent about the Queen, UK's history, people, customs or flags. I do however understand everyone's need to belong to something as arbitrary as a nationality, culture or footie team, but just as long as those bobbing flag-wavers realize that not everyone feels the same way.

Well said!

I've hated the royal lot ever since I was a kid and forced to wave a flag for someone I didn't care about or i'd get a detention and had to write line after line why the queen was great

Firstly, did you bother to read that short piece?

Secondly, I didn't actually say it was a good thing that she can disband the Government or Parliament, did I?

She can do it and if there was some kind of crisis she has the power to overall everyone and form a new government and restart everything.

Almost everyday (in Brazil) I am asked about the Royal Family, so it proves that there is a lot of touristic interest in them overseas which in turn equates to a boost for the country.

The thing is that she can do it (dissolve parliament), but if she ever did it when it wasn't the right thing to do, then she basically would lose that power.

true cost of the royals is a bunch of ****.

we could kill them take all the castles and **** back , turn them into luxury hotels or museums an still rake in a fortune.

people dont visit england to see the royals.. they never get to see them anyway its the buildings which would remain long after their bloodline was wiped out

I understand what you are saying, however, I'll disagree because it's not about literally seeing the Royals it's about them visiting the history, residences and so forth.

Brazil once had the Portuguese Royal family here and they were forced out and the country turned into a republic, leaving all the old Royal palaces and residences, which are now almost derelict and do not make a profit any longer.

If you remove the Royals from the UK then you remove it's identity and if you do that you may as well change the name at the same time.
