STALKER - what a game!

I didn't think so though I only played it for around 40 minutes before I gave up. I know there are mods that address combat - it's just a shame you're reliant on mods to 'fix' the game (and they weren't available when I first played it).

I loved Fallout 3 (not so much New Vegas - though I'm going to try it again soon) but really didn't get on with Stalker - the marmite metaphor is very accurate.

Just like the OP i recently was looking at my Steam library in a bid to finish some of the games bought in sales but never finished. Had briefly played in the past but not got very far. Now playing through and thoroughly enjoying the game. A couple of annoying bugs but i have found that saving regularly removes the annoyance.

I have just done the x16 lab bit of the barkeep mission. How much game is really left? Does it go on for a long time with all the factions etc?

The guns you get in the beginning are dire, as far as I'm aware this is intentional, to enhance the experience of being a rookie - when you start getting some decent rifles it gets a lot better :)

It's also not supposed to be a run & gun shooter - it's very much designed so that if you run in all guns blazing you'll die very quickly, especially with the bleeding mechanics.

I think that's part of the appeal really - the market is saturated with COD and BF clones where you can get shot 14 times and shrug it off, so it's nice to have a game which rewards being careful and patient. Obviously it's slightly harder work that doesn't appeal to everyone, hence the love/hate mix :)

Just installed the complete mod for call of Pripyat when running the installer i got 2 sets of options.

Install normal or advanced went with normal as not sure how it will run on a 460gtx 1 gig ?

Then i got another option about exploding bodies etc ????? whats that all about been a long time since i played this.

what res are you playing? i have a 768MB version of the 460 and get pretty good framerates at 1360x768 res. its been a while since i played so i couldnt say exactly what framerates i get though.

the exploding bodies thing is what happens to NPC's that get caught in an emission. i forget what option i chose of the ~4 but i suppose it really doesnt matter much.

Thxs reaper yer I kinda worked that NPC thing out myself after the first emission.

Ive got better frames but its still a bit spikey/jerky normaly when it loading something into the memory or Vram I guess as it spikes for about half a second.

Im playing at 1920 x1200

Loved all three games and some of the mods are great.

I come back to these games a lot mainly due to the atmosphere that the game generates.

Running them (especially Clear Sky) from an SSD made things a lot smoother for me.

The one thing I love about S.T.A.L.K.E.R., is its proof that most developers have no idea what they are doing when it comes to the PC, as my laptop which has a 1.6ghz processor, a 128mb graphics chip and 2gb of ram ran Call of Pripyat on medium settings!

That's insane, when it wouldn't run Morrowind above minimum. :p

Reading this made me install the game, I found it in my steam list from a sale or something and it only had 25 mins played :p

One thing that is bothering me though is that vsync seems to do nothing. I am getting 300-500fps and my cards fans are going mental all the time.

What spec do you have to get that FPS. Also do you get any stuttering?

Just reinstalled this again with the complete mod and holy cow, what a game! I tried it before and it never really clicked for me, but after giving it a few hours all I can say is wow.
Am really glad I tried it again and am going to be taking my time and soaking this game up :)

It's pants!

(/runs)

Name change to I Love STALKER?

It's an amazing game and one of the best gaming moments I have ever had when i 'got into it'. I tried it once and didn't get on with it, but after seeing all the love it gets I forced myself to give it a proper go and then couldn't stop playing it.

I think it helps that I'm also fascinated with Chernobyl and would love to visit Pripyat one day.

Well I have S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, never installed or played.

Installing now.

Is the complete mod compatible?
