If it was not for the fact that our armed Forces are prepared to lay down there lives for our Monarchy, then fact you would be now speaking German.

That is just an utter disgraceful statement.

Nobody gives up their live for a old 86 year old who is nothing more than a figurehead for an institution that should have died years ago.

Learn to read i said Monarchy and over the Centuries the armed forces have its called History. British Heritage is built on Kings and Queens and their Wars.

Only reference to the queen was (at present)

Everyone that joins the armed forces do it to earn a wage and gain skills, they certainly don't do it for the Queen.

I am patriotic but all the money and land and jewels the queen has and Soldiers are on about £17k a year risking life, while she sits in umpteen castles and palaces.

If she was really a people person, she would sell up and distribute the wealth to the people of Great Britain!

I think if the Royals sold up and distributed the wealth as you say, they'd probably have enough to buy everyone a cinema ticket and a bag of popcorn. That will certainly close up the gap between the rich and the poor.

The royals bring in a lot of money via tourism, a lot of people make a good living through this.
 
Loosing the Monarchy would be loosing a piece of sets us apart from our European cousins.
They pay for themselves and we gain a bit of uniqueness in what is quickly becoming a world of clones.
Most country's kill for a little heritage yet a select few just seem hell-bent on loosing it for no real world gain.

Besides, can anyone realistically see England ever being monarchy free?
 
Hmm so this tourism doesn't seem to fix anything, 1930s we had a recession that led to a a 2nd World War but now in 2012 in a double dip the Royals still supposedly bring in money, where does it go, has anyone ever worked out how much land and wealth they have.

The Queen this amazing woman that wasn't going to send the Royal jet to pick up Diana's body, people need to understand the Royal family are humans and not some great, loving and all caring people, Prince Charles divorce and Prince Andree divorce, its not all fairy tales!

Wonder if the Queen has to wait 12 weeks to see a specialist or has to worry about heating her home like millions of OAPs?

Think that had more to do with Germany invading Poland lol.

The Nazi invasion of Poland (1st September 1939) caused war because Britain had guaranteed Poland’s borders.

Other Europeans have Kings and Queens, albeit they see as a bit of a joke.

You don't see Spain, Holland, Norway making **** out of themselves over their monarchies do you?

This is true but they have never at any stage in History been in charge of a quarter of the world like us Brits, have you any idea just how great, Great Britain used to be.

i have a lot of respect for the ones that actually fought on the frontlines.

who was the last royal perosn to do that?

dont give me any of that modern **** where they get sent out to places with minimal risk and earn a few medals just because they are royal

Think you misunderstand the quote, was about our older History when you did what a King or Queen asked and did not question it, related to the thread above (Britannia Rules the Waves). Heritage from our past.

Think you wil find they were fighting for their mates and the survival of the UK, nothing to do with the monarchy, especially as they would have escaped to Canada if the BoB had gone the wrong way.

The monarchy id hazard a guess brings in A lot of revenue for GB LTD
