Well i was right about my Halfhand prediction. I have another, but with Bran and Rickon going north and the White Walkers coming south it seems rather obvious who we'll be saying bye to next series...

Theon isn't actually dead, is he? Did they just hand him over so they would live? If that's the case - who's bright idea was it to burn Winterfell?

Thats a point actually. Did they take robbs deal and hand him over (then burning winterfell wouldnt make sense) or did they just take him home with them (then the burning would make sense).....

I wouldn't have thought they could make it home, Theon being unconscious makes little difference to that. There were still 500 men outside, and they killed the only man who knew the secret passageways.

I think it would be a spoiler to say;)

I suppose it doesn't make much sense just going by the series. A major character has not been introduced yet, and if he was it would have made all that make a lot more sense. It will probably be where the 3rd series starts. so no doubt it will all be made clear(but probably would have been better put in this episode tbh).

Not too sure what the procedure for spoilers is in this thread so i'm gonna whack my question in a spoiler tag:

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN EPISODE 10

Episode 10: What the hell happened to the 500 Northmen who surrounded Winterfell? The Iron Men tied up Theon and fled, but how did it get burned down and why did Bran and the others have to run away again with supplies? Big unexplained continuity problems there!

Don't think they should have compromised to the scale they did, that's for certain.
The Winterfell thing literally makes no sense.

As i say - what would you have done differently? They had a ton of storylines to 'wrap up', a limited budget and perhaps most importantly a very limited amount of time.

Quite a lot in fact.......the problem is trying to fit essential story arcs into a single season and the strange choices with changes to plotlines that will certainly hamper the story arc further down the line.....

I think the writers have realised this, hence the changes from next season when Book Three will be spread over 2 seasons, instead of the original idea of editing two books into a single season.

ACoK is 752 pages. The two parts of ASoS are 688 and 656 respectively. It was never going to be a possibility to do them both in one. As i see it if it's fine by GRRM then it's fine by me. No, he might not have the final say. But his opinion obviously holds weight. And he hasn't voiced any complaints.

I'd say he has a lot more influence than you think. Just look at The Walking Dead - Robert Kirkman kicked up a fuss and things changed (I forget what the situation was though).

It was a distinct possibility as the original intention was for season two to span books 2 and 3.....this changed after the unexpected success of season 1....and the continued success of season 2 has enlarged the scope of production further as the probability of seeing the story through to it's ultimate conclusion over a longer period increases.

Difference is that AMC is a far less influential and powerful entity than HBO who are a subsidary of Time Warner.......

Although both Kirkman and GRRM are executive Producers on their respective shows, they have limited authority once they sold the rights to the broadcaster.....this was illustrated when the agreed budget was cut for season two of The Walking Dead despite Kirkman objecting to the inherent changes caused by this.
