E3 2012 - June 5th to 7th

At the moment, Nintendo dont need to release their big games such as a proper HD Mario, Zelda etc. When MS and Sony announce their new consoles, then Nintendo will announce their next major Mario, Zelda to distract everyones attention towards them because the console is already on the market. Then people will splash out for the Wii U and maybe avoid new consoles from MS and Sony at launch.

Don't understand why people are screaming out for new gen consoles, as if game consoles aren't expensive enough for companies to make these days. Just because we have all been use to this 5 year console cycle. Those days are gone, console manufactures and developers have been saying this for the past 3 years. If you are that eager for next gen graphics then spend £400 on a PC with a decent graphics card. That will be 3 generations ahead of what any next gen console would be announced whenever MS and Sony decide to announce theirs.

On a side note, fair play to Nintendo making use of controllers from the Wii, instead of us forking out money for new controllers to match the Wii U for single screen multi-player.

I agree.

I am not dissing indie or 2D games. I have many indie games aswell and enjoy variety. But what I meant was that if Nintendo unveils their new console with a 2D Mario game (Nintendo icon), it won't attract much interest from gaming community who have already become so used to Xbox360/Ps3 titles.

On some forums people including nintendo fanboys have already commented that they want to see a true 3D Mario game.

I think the reason being people want to see true potential of Wii U and they are in general skeptical about current state of games on Wii U

Yeh, I understand where your coming from. I guess all we can do is wait for the drip feed trickle from Nintendo to start flowing from now till Oct.

Nintendo said in April they aren't attending Gamescom 2012 but I think they should re-consider as they need a strong show case for the WII U, which their E3 conference was not. Plus Gamescom is the biggest gaming expo according to attendance counts.

The only good thing about this year was Watch Dogs. Probably the best video game trailer in years. If you haven't seen it, prepare to be blown away.

Theres a Tokyo Game Show in September which I would hope they would go to and do something good at, otherwise meh.

I really dont understand all the hate for E3. Im glad they didnt announce next gen, im happy to wait a few more years until PC gaming starts getting ahead of consoles again, in terms of graphics. Cause at the moment they are evenly matched and I dont really wanna pay ou another £500 for something that isnt going to add much.

What pc's have you been looking at?

They're at least a generational leap ahead of consoles already and have been for a couple years now, and that's at bare minimum. In reality, we probably won't see the day again where consoles achieve parity with pc's. If consoles make another jump in resolution with the next gen (which they should) that alone will eat up a sizeable amount of the performance boost.

Although I am with you in being ok with waiting for next gen consoles, but not because I expect them to match pc's, purely because I'd like the performance increase to be as big as it can be.

Quite possibly the worst E3 ever. These companies are all past it. Where's the spark? Even Halo 4's reveal was nowhere near as exciting as Halo 2 or 3's.

Maybe they are all too busy working on Apple's console, or iTV all in one box!

It's fairly clear that the shift to the next gen is happening, which Apple might be a part of. I expect next year's E3 to be focused on PS4/720, last standalone boxes?, and both consoles to be out for the holiday season.

I have the same feeling towards the Wii U that I had 12 months ago. It's going to be a very hard sell. Even if the concept is good in practice it will be much harder to get that across in 30s advert's than it was with the Wii. 3rd parties will once again throw Nintendo a few rehashed titles and then moan when their 12 month old title didn't sell well on the Wii U.

They're not evenly matched at all. There are some visually impressive games out/coming out on the consoles for sure but the PC is still miles ahead and has been for years. If anything, PC games are being held back by the consoles because these days the PC versions are treated with less importance by devs and publishers.

Not to mention the fact that so many console games are running at sub-720p. I'm not sure there's a PC gamer alive who would accept that.

Just watched some watch dogs gameplay and the trailer and oh my it looks absolutely class! Can't wait for that to be released. Been quite a disappointing E3 so far to be honest. Not a lot that gets me excited; Watch Dogs has made u for it though.

Very excited for Watch Dogs, the concept is brilliant. Still don't believe that is running on a console though. Little concerned about the team's pedigree (it seems a bit hit and miss)

Games ARE being held back by consoles. Loads of devs have commented on this. It's not just graphics though. You're talking AI,Physics etc It's all being held back by the limited hardware in current consoles. That's why I was hoping for an announcement on the next gen. This gen is just getting stale.
Look at Watch Dogs. That was clearly being run on a high end PC. Console version will look nothing like it. Graphics won't be as good, there won't be as many NPC's on the screen. And people will moan about the console versions.
Medal Of Honour: Warfighter. The new MP footage looks good but again it's on a high end PC. Just like BF3 people will moan when they see the console versions.

I think the guy's coat's physics has a CPU core to itself. :D
