Is it just me...

VR6 wasnt any better though was it? It was pretty damn front heavy. no quicker to 60 and had only 4 hp more from an extra 900cc.
Cossie?
Escort or Sierra?
Although they are more Homologation jobbies really.

VR6 had more power didn't it? as did the V6 4motion that followed it.

I miss my vr6, one of the best sleeper cars I had. I went a bit mental with the engine mods, bored out to 3 litre, supercharger etc, but kept the body standard so it shocked a few people. Handling was a bit ****, but it went and sounded great. Mid range, overtaking and top end was where it was for the VR6.

Front Wheel Drive + loads of BHP = big rubber = highly geared steering = small feedback = carp cornering.

Rofl at vr6. Was def a supercar but not a hot hatch without a lot of mods. Engine gives its best before 5.5k, factory dampers were a joke. The gti6 didn't need all the work and the escos imo is not in the hot hatch league

What do you mean by "Highly geared steering"?

And if a hatchback has 4 wheel drive, is it then ok to have loads of power? Bit of a wierd thread I think.

lancia delta, pulsar gtir, all pushed the boat our years ago and then the performance market contracted a bit and the major manufacturer backed off a bit. and now we are getting back into big figure territory...

i don't think id turn to a hot hatch now it the rampant insurance gauging like the focus etc rules it out for me.

OP: You are correct, but the manufacturers are giving the customers what they want, which is more horse power. Whether this makes a better car or not doesn't matter, it is what the customer perceives to be better.

I bought a swift sport which a lot of people say is a slow car, i know its not a hot hatch, its more of a warm hatch but it can still out handle more powerfull cars, and thats the reason why i got it. I don't care about straight line speed as thats boring, i prefer a car that can put a smile on my face day in day out.

I looked at these, but I just didn't like the interior. Plus I wouldn't want anything slower than my current car.

They get a lot of priase as Ring Taxi's so cant be all that bad! I would assume you arent alone in your feelings about putting a smile on your face.

Rather than spending time squeezing more power out of the cars I would rather them spend more time on making the cars lighter and handle better, making them more fun to drive.

+1.

180 bhp in my Westfield is more than enough ;)

Quite. Look at the Escort Cosworth from 1995 - 220bhp and the same size a the VXR.
