Indian Tech support call back!

Me and a mate kept them on for about 15 minutes, mainly with the phone just hanging there while we 'go get the laptop out of the car'. I came back to it after another wait to find the charger and they'd gone, the woman called back 5 minutes later to apologise for the line dropping out, kept her going for another 5 minutes as I'd put the laptop back in the car but this time she disappeared.

I had one of them call me over Easter, I would have kept them on the phone for but I was just about to go out so had to keep it short. My parents get a call off them every few months or so.

We've had one call, I was at work but the missus kept them going for a good 15 mins, I was impressed. Mainly because she had actually listened to me when I mentioned the scam :p

I might be tempted to ask for their address so I can send them my laptop and they can sort it for because I don't know what to do/ haven't got the internet as I've not got a phone line :p

Everyday I seem to get texts and phone calls saying I can claim for a injury I have. If they phone I always ask what injury exactly are they reffering to and they usually hang up. Don't think I would reply the words CONFIRM in the texts either, probably some premium service costing £4 per sms or something.

Sad thing is they probably catch some idiots out otherwise they would have quit a long time ago.

Don't know whether it would help with this, but you can add yourself to the Telephone Preference Service to avoid calls.

No, it doesn't help with this. I'm registered with the TPS and I got one of them today. I probably have some when I'm at work that I never know about. Why would a thief from another country care about breaking the UK TPS rules?

TPS doesn't stop PPI calls either. Or surveys.

EDIT: As soon as she said it was about my computer, I just cheerfully replied "This is a scam. You're going to tell me that you're from Windows or something equally silly." As she hung up, I heard her saying "he knows" to someone at her end. Hopefully that'll stop them trying again, since they know there's no point.

Had them on for 45 mins.

was telling me to press ctrl + alt + windows key or whatever, I said it was asking for a password and kept asking him what the password was.

Then asked to speak to his supervisor as he had broke my computer, i get super, ask him for password, restart my comp twice to see if that helps, kept them on for 4 mins each time while I went to make a cup of tea :)

They then decided it needed a password because windows wasn't genuine, I asked to pay in pennies for my new licence (they didn't understand what pennies were), throughout I was asking what's the password (The people from Windows should know my password right? :). They finally twigged, shouted abuse at me to put the phone down, to which I replied "Can you tell me the password", they then hung up.

I don't normally have the time for all this, they just phoned at the right moment when I had a long weight for something and I was watching a Top Gear on Dave that I've seen about 20 times anyway :)

edit: That was about a month ago, not had a phone call since. They did call maybe once a week before that.

I had one of these calls on my direct office phone today with the greeting "Hello I'm from Windows" ! As soon as I said "Good afternoon, London Borough of *********** " they hanged up??? Don't know why???

I've had a number of calls like this, I usually just hang up, but one really tried to pretend they were official, so I strung along for a few minutes.

He said he was from Windows, so I then said:
"Ahh... you must be calling from Microsoft then?"

"No Sir, I'm officially from Windows, the operating system on your computer".

"Oh, so you aren't Microsoft then...hmm".

"No Sir, we are Windows".

"Do you know who makes Windows?"

*Umms and Arrs a bit*

"I believe Windows is made by Microsoft..."

Yes, that's right Sir".

"So you are calling from Windows, which is owned by Microsoft, but you aren't Microsoft?"

*Umms and Arrs some more... then talks to somebody in the background*
"Listen Sir, I'm calling from Windows, there is a problem with your computer".

"Right, I'm with you now, that does sound quite bad, actually I'm quite worried, what should I do? Are you going to be able to help me?........ Is it going to be a problem that I'm not using Windows? My computer is made by Apple. What about my Xbox, that's made by Microsoft though...?

*Hangs up*

They must get some people though, or else they wouldn't be making so many damn calls. I'm sure it's the same company who once phoned me from the "BT Carphone Warehouse" trying to give me a free phone.
