Old MB - P45 UD3P

Current - P55 UD5

On the p45 it says in AS SSD 103424 K - OK

On the P55 it says 1024 K - OK

Speeds for read and write are about half. Its in AHCI mode, am I missing something?

Yep, it uses the same chipset drivers as the old one;

* Product: Intel(R) Chipset Device Software
* Release: Beta
* Version: 9.1.2.1007
* Target Chipset#: Jasper Forest
* Date: March 02 2010

It does have this on the gigabyte site

GIGABYTE SATA2 Driver

1.17.59.0 3.34 MB 2010/11/17 Asia China America Europe Europe(Russia) : FTP / Http

Then...

GIGABYTE SATA2 Preinstall driver
(For AHCI / RAID Mode)
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.

1.17.59.0 0.20 MB 2010/11/17 Asia China America Europe Europe(Russia) : FTP / Http

are you running xfire? or usb3,i think that affects sata speed on p55 not sure now,could test by disabling usb3
be sure to use latest bios aswell

update - Is this correct -

I may actually have a solution for you to try. If the M4 is reporting UDMA5 it is operating in IDE mode.
Switch it to SATA/AHCI mode in bios, or try a different SATA port.

I have it plugged into GSATA0 which is in AHCI mode

Update - problem solved

It wasnt bios as I am now back to F4 as had overclocking problems with the latest

It was that I was using GSATA instead of normal SATA. I thought the GSATA was gigabit sata or something. Instead I read gigabyte uses its own marvel sata controller instead of the intel one.

In a normal port now and speeds are normal. Still don't know why it says 'not bootable' but it clearly is!
