As the title says, Im a total w/c beginner. I want my i5 2500k water cooled along with my 6950 crossfire but Im not sure on parts needed

From what I can figure myself I need a Rad plus fans, pump, tubing, cpu block, gpu blocks and/or crossfire block? and ofcourse the fluid.

I have a corsair carbide 500r case which has the cutout part on top for a 240mm rad so i guess that helps, I have a rough idea of how to go about it but before i purchase anything id like a little advice on kits and/or parts for the full loop.

I was thinking of a closed loop pre built thing like a H100, and accelero xtreme for the cards but that would be near the price for a w/c system id guess. Water cooling seems the way forward after the red hot weather a few weeks back

I'm just getting into it too. Can I ask why you aren't going for a custom loop? I think you'll see better temps and it will be fully customisable. That's the route I'm taking, though a lot more money is required.

I was considering a custom loop, but im very wary of doing it, just not confident enough to put water near my rig when i have no idea what im doing. Anyway, I have ordered the H100 and 4 akasa apache for push/pull and 2 accelero xtreme II for my cards next week.

I'd get rid of the h100 an go for an XSPC kit.

I promise you, you will NOT regret it!:)

I understand yor fears about water near your rig, but if you take care, nothing will leak :)

The H100 and apaches are on the way, Im happy to try that out. If it doesnt deliver what I want then I guess maybe Il have a go at water in future. I have a A50 cooler right now, im sure the H100 will knock spots off it.

H100 is no doubt a great cooler, but it's not dry good. Alie for money ck soldering for a little more you can buy a kit which you can later incorporate your GPUs into :)

Grrr, DAM U AUTOCORRECT >.<

It's not very good value for money as for a little more money you can buy a kit.

I thought the same. But my worries about water inside and me not knowing a thing swayed me towards H100.

Il go with real w/c next build, I pwomise :D

Nice :D

A enjoy the H100!

Also, we demand pics of the GPU coolers and info on whether they're 2 slot :D

Yeah mate il get pics up, cant afford the Acceleros til next week, so probs sat ur sun next weekend il get pics up, It says they are crossfire ready, and at the moment i have a good gap between the cards so im almost 100% sure it will work.

Fair play to you. I'm a total noob too, and water in computer scares the hell out of me, but I want to do it, and have read up about it. Of course, there's a big difference between reading and actually doing, but I'm going with compression fittings so hopefully that'll be OK. I will also leak test for 6 weeks (:))before plugging everything into mobo and powering up. Good luck with yours.

6 week leak testing

Try 48 hours if you really realt want to be sure, then plug everything in and keep a close eye on it all :)

I totally get the being nervous element of first time watercooling, but it's really not as bad as you probably think it is.
for me the worst part was changing my GPU cooler for a block, but shawsy109 seems like he/she'll be pretty much doing that anyway to fit the accelero xtreme.
I think watercooling equipment these days is a lot better than it once was (although I only started recently) and now there are more standards that things follow.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I first drained my loop I was actually surprised how hard it can be to get the water out! You undo 1 fitting and yes some liquid comes out, but it's not like the entire contents of your loop rush out in a split second.

As long as you allow enough radiators space the temperature and noise ratios of watercooling are just great.

I think watercooling loops are like a lot of things, including building a PC. The first time or 2 you do it you're gonna be worried that you're doing it right, but then after that it just becomes another step in the process. And like building a PC, you have to be careful every time as experience doesn't guarentee things wont go wrong, but you know what to expect and can make allowances.

i was SUPER paranoid and what i did was to test each fitting individually, then connect them to the blocks and then test the fitting-block-fitting and then connect it all up together :)

Well, until i see the H100 performance with push/pull apaches on it I cant tell if it was worth it, the more i read the more i kinda wished i just got a xspc kit.

To be honest if the H100 does well, il be happy, save w/c for the next build.

oh and Moogaly im a guy :P

i have just been pricing up my 1st proper loop cpu gpu and motherboard i am looking at almost £400. i have got my cpu water cooled at the moment with a thermaltake/gigabite system i got off ebay cheap and my temps never whent over 40c on a q6600 so i have decideed to take the plunge on my new rig when it arives this weekend or next week and go all out.
