Which rental car?

I have been a fair few times, do you really need a car? (LV and NY are just about the only places in the states i would say this)

If staying on the strip and old vegas i would walk and taxi it.

I don't see why you need a car. A car like that is saying ' hey look at me I'm a tourist trying to look cool'

You can walk from one end to the other fairly quick or just take taxis.

For the experience more than anything I'm sure. I'd also use a holiday as an opportunity to drive something with a yank V8.

Does seem a fairly pointless way of wasting a pile when a V6 Mustang would look the same, drive from one end of the Strip to the other the same, have 300bhp and be half the price? :p

The drive from LV to the Hoover Dam isn't really compatible to the Stelvio Pass, in fact it's pretty boring. Not worth paying extra for a V8 to "enjoy" the drive with.

A tourist in Vegas, I bet I will stand out like a sore thumb. ;)

Exactly, where else will I get the opportunity to do something like this.

Well it was not a pile, it wasn't that expensive imo. We re going to use it to go to the outlet malls which are 20 miles out of town. I am also looking at routes to take it on to take advantage of the unlimited mileage.

This is not a head decision, hiring a 300bhp v6 has no draw for me probably because I have 300bhp sat outside my house at my disposal.

For the sake of the little extra it will provide me a memory, people say you can't put a price on those. :)

The malls are not 20 miles out of town, one of them is about a mile or two from the top of the strip and the other is hardly far :p

I am at the other end, it is a 20 mile round trip sorry I got confused.

My point about memories stil stands.:p

The one time i had a hire car in Vegas it just stood in the Belagio parking mall for a week. Was a complete waste.

Normally on vegas trips is did a week there then got a car to drive to Pheonix, quite a nice drive along route 60.

Having 2 more cylinders in your otherwise identical rental car hardly makes or breaks holiday memories :p

Just checked and they have no v6's for that rental period, the only cars cheaper are a Toyota corolla and a dodge caravan. :D

I did the Chevy Camero Convertible this March just gone in Vegas, also through Hertz as well. Managed to fit two suitcases but definately would have had problems squeezing more in. Even in the normal model.

Driving between Casinos was very handy, it's deceptive how far apart the lots are. And whilst it's fun to do once, you don't want to do it all the time. Tip $2 for vallet parking each time, only when you pick up the car and it really is a no brainer.

Taxis are far too expensive if not splitting the cost between several people.

Plus it's handy to have when you want to leave the strip. Drove up to a national park and the Hoover Dam.

Was definately worth it.

Especially useful when we are the encore which is at one end of the strip and we want to visit mandalay bay end, we would need a taxi as we are going with an older person who would never walk it and so we would end up getting taxis.

I've rented all 3 (allbeit in base v6 form)

Best looking was undoubtedly the challenger and it had a good ride, but apart from that it was completely outclassed by the other 2. Particularly as the 2010 car we had only had 250bhp whereas the other 2011 cars had 300bhp.

For quality, interior comfort, build quality and grip, the Camaro was leagues ahead. The 6-speed autobox made it feel quite european. Overall, it was the best.

The Mustang was more entertaining to drive though and I preffered the engine - the more basic 5-speed gearbox suited the car quite well despite being a little dimwitted, it made the engine feel far more willing at low revs than the camaro.

We barely used the car in Vegas but then again, we were only there for 2 days driving from and on to more interesting places!

For Vegas/Grand Canyon in mid-September, would people recommend or not recommend a convertible?

In March going into April which was end of spring going into summer, I put the Camero's top down on the drive to the Hoover Dam. I got sunburned like a muppet.

It's still mid 30s in September I think? But it can get quite cool in the evening.

(I'd get the convertible)
