Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator

Saw this last weekend and was in stiches, I genuinely couldn't believe that the PC mob would allow some of this stuff in a modern movie, its awesome. The funniest film I have seen in a long long time.

The only downfall is that some of the parodys are in slightly too much bad taste, i.e its hard to laugh at the scenes involving parodys of Gadaffis female bodyguards who were captured after his death then raped, tortured and beaten to death over a number of days.

I thought it was a terrible terrible movie.. and I'm a big fan of Borat and Bruno..

Perhaps it was the lack of "real people" interaction?

Have to fully agree with you..

Wasn't a patch on borat or bruno, however, some parts were decent like the part in the helicopter.

Went and saw it about a week after it opened and was surprised to see the cinema that me and the missus went to was absolutely jam packed for it.

As for the movie itself, probably one of the funniest movies i have seen for a very long time. Im a huge Sacha fan but i didnt think highly of Borat, watched it the other night and yes its funny but not even a patch on Dictator. I didnt find Bruno or Ali G all that funny when i went and watched them yrs ago. But the Dictator was just too funny, i was in stitches for most of the movie, missus loved it to bits and from what i gathered of the people in the cinema, they also found it absolutely hilarious....non stop laughs all the way and just so so offensive.

Cant wait for it to come out on blu ray, definitely a purchase for me.

I used to love his work, but I'm not sold on this by looking at the trailer.

The fact that they've gone for a fully acted, more traditional film style makes the humour he is known for look too staged and unfunny.

Even the Borat and Bruno films were so staged that they lost some of their charm.

I honestly think his best work was as the Borat character when it was just part of the Ali G tv show. What made his characters funny was by showing up a member of the public, celebrity or politician. I'll give that it's difficult now he is so well known and it's also difficult to make a major film when the emphasis is just on finding people to make fun of and get them to sign off on it.

I also very much enjoyed Ali G, Borat and Bruno charachters from the early days. However there is a limited shelf life with this material once it reaches a mass audience, hence the need for cohen to create new charchters.

Watched the Dictator last night but thought it was very poor and would maybe give it 4/10.

Cohen's talent is for improvised comedy and I don't think this scripted movie worked at all for him. it was awful.

Watched this last night , pretty good , not as good as Borat (no interaction with thicko yanks sadly)

BUT worth it for this alone

Watched it recently and found it mildly amusing. Had some excellent comedy moments but they were few and far between. Nowhere near as funny as Borat or Bruno were.

I've seen it. I was a bit underwhelmed with it at first, but then I realised there was a bit of story to it and so I enjoyed it. I think I was expecting a Borat when really it was an Ali G.

Laughed once.... When he kicked the fat kid over in the shop!

Wont be watching anymore of his movies if its going to be scripted word for word. Borat was all about the element of surprise.

Wife and I watched it last night and roared with laughter.

Never mind a BAFTA, he may earn a FATWA for that ;)

His first movie was just that, scripted word for word.

The Dictator isn't supposed to be some sort of spiritual successor to Borat.

Couple of funny bits, not very good at all though. Other half fell asleep, Wouldn't recomend.
