What's our strike rate with these promising young forwards, zero?

Forgive me if the needle on my excitement meter fails to budge :p.

Welll to be fair the last striker we bought in that age group was Hernandez - who had a pretty decent first season

Welbeck has been with us for years

Macheda was with Utd's youth set up/ on loan (if my memory is working correctly) for a few years before getting the goals that secured the (or history relates it this way :p) 09/10 title

Bebe was never really a striker (its even questionable if he was a pro footballer lol) when Utd bought him

I cant think of anyone else Utd bought in that sort of age group recently in that position

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, 26, is on his way to Manchester United with Sir Alex Ferguson offering a £25m fee, rising to £30m based on appearances and success.
More BBC Bull****

Man how times have changed. To be fair I think Modric would improve us massively but unless we were 100% sure Fletcher was going to make a full recovery we'd be leaving ourselves light defensively.

I'm guessing Henriquez has been brought over early due to Will Keane's injury.

He's a classy player and would improve us without a doubt. The problem I have is when you start talking about a transfer fee approaching £40m, it's hard not to see how that could be put to better use.

+1

Unless Fergie really does have ~£100m to spend (which I dont believe for a second)

At this stage, I would be very surprised to see Fletcher play much before 13/14 - only because from what I have read his condition hasnt even been cured yet, without considering fitness conditions etc.

I read somewhere that Utd HAD to complete the option this summer or lose out totally , so I dont know whether the Keane injury made any difference in this respect

The Sun are saying £30m , which is a **** of a lot better lol, but I kind of agree with you - especially given his age, but Utd havent had a high scoring CM for some time (even Keane didnt ever score more than 2 or 3 a season, yet he is considered a modern OT hero). - edit just stating fact not being critical of RK in anyway - edit 2 - his average over his OT career is about 2.5 or so league goals a season, but on three occasions he scored 5 or 6 /season.

I personally still think its a weakness Utd have had too long, but hopefully Kagawa will change that

I don't know about any option to be honest so maybe it's that. If we had to complete or lose the option then I guess he might go straight on loan. I think he'd be a good bet under the exceptional talent rule though (never seen him play live but he seems quite highly rated).

The thing with Modric is that now we've got Kagawa (who I have seen quite a bit as IMO the Bundesliga is the best european league to watch) we have gone an awful long way to solving our creativity problems through the middle. Signing Modric would certainly increase our ability to retain possession and to use it effectively. Modric - Scholes/Cleverley - Carrick would be great for the vast majority of matches but in case of injury or against certain teams playing a hard pressing game we'd still need a ball winner. To be fair though if we got Modric I'd be happy to lower my hopes of what that ball winner could do, I'd be fairly happy with someone with a lot of energy and a decent tackle who could then just give a quick 6 yard pass to one of our more creative players. Someone like Tiote would be fine (just not at 20mill).

If we brought in 2 midfielders though we'd have to be happy not to register Fletcher and also, possibly let someone like Anderson go. Next season when Scholes/Giggs leave we'll free up a bit of space.

There is no issue with squad spaces with PIG, Owen, Berba, Pogba, Morrison, De Leat all leaving the club and Fabio going on loan somewhere - thats 7 spaces already (and of course Will Keane will be out for 9 months or so, so he wont need a squad number either)

Wouldn't most of those not even count as under 21's aren't actually in the squad, so its only Owen, Berba, Pig who would free up squad places, while Owen would have counted towards one of the home grown slots and Pig/pogba wouldn't(pig might have actually been there young enough, I can't remember). Kagawa won't count towards home grown and would be in the 25, so would Modric if you got him.

You might find that is why Fabio/Rafael are being talked about with loans away this year, if I'm reading the dates correctly they turn 21 before next season starts, though I'm not sure at what point you turn 21 that counts towards that season.

Both Raf/Fab wouldn't have needed to be in the 25 last year, this year they would likely both be counted, and could count as home grown also as afaik they have been their 3 years under 21?

What is with the lazy journalism these days?

Levy: He's going nowhere, I can't sell him out of principle now so **** ***
Chelsea: I'll give you £40m
Levy: Listen take your ruskie rubbles and shove 'em up your ***

12 months pass with Modric playing the whole season and is instrumental in helping Spurs stay in the Top 4... obviously this will affect his value?

Whiskey Nose: I'll give £20m
Levy: What an amazing offer, how could I turn that down? Suckers, his stock must have dropped by at least 80% after a season like that... Hey Fergie you can add Bale for an extra tenner???

Lazy, lazy, lazy

I have to agree, I can't see Levy letting Modric go for any less than £40m, being a year older and having a year less on his contract won't matter a jot to Levy.

That would be fine, personally if it nudged far above 30mill then I think we could look at alternative targets. Spurs don't have to sell if they don't want to.

The Poland national team coach has just revealed that Lewandowski is joining Manchester United... more to come.

Goal link (probably being updated now): http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...ews-lewandowski-is-going-to-manchester-united

This is the specific quote though, people may be reading too much into it: "In my opinion, in a moment they will be gone from Borussia," Smuda said. "'Lewy' is going to Manchester United, Kuba also somewhere in England, Piszczek to Real (Madrid)."
