** Samsung 830 seres SSD, CRAZY PRICE **

Are the SSD's different apart from the supplied accessories?
Therefore can you use the notebook variety in the desk top?
I have a 40Gb which is now full and need to upgrade so a straight forward swop is all that is required.

This is probably a stupid question but what exactly is the difference between the Notebook/Apple SSD's and the desktop ones?

I mean I know one is for one and one is for the other but why?? Which one would I need to slot into my Dell laptop? (ie. is a notebook different to a laptop??)

The physical sizes are the same so what else is different?

There's no difference with the drives themselves.

The only difference is what accessories come with it in the box.

The "desktop" version includes a 3.5" Bracket with screws and SATA data & power cables.

The "notebook" version inludes a SATA to USB adapter cable and a mounting spacer so that it fits in the space for 9.5mm thick disks.

Now when are they back in stock?

You're best posting in Customer Service for that.

They only arrived late Thusday afternoon and with the pre-orders it doesn't look like there were too many left.

However informed I will receive tomorrow, doubt it!

That wouldn't even happen if they were in stock.

Does it matter which I get if it's to slot into a Dell XPS L702x? (ie. will I ever need a SATA to USB cable??? - cant imagine what anyone would use it for!?!?)

Its to transfer your old OS to the new ssd, if you were so inclined.. No it dosen't matter which you get.. its the same SSD.

Thanks!

So just to clarify, between the Crucial M4 256GB or the Samsung 830 256GB - which is "best" (ie. reliability and speed) if cost wasn't an issue?

I'm not really sure what is important when it comes to the figures - the M4 has the higher quoted sequential read and random 4k write but lower sequential write and a lot lower random 4k read!?!?

Which should I be concerned with??

Honestly i'd take either one, both are excellent SSDs for speed and reliability and you won't see the difference in performance for either. Given that one is so cheap atm, its a no brainer.

Brilliant just only week after I ordered mine at the old price...AAAARRRRGH:(
That's what I hate about IT equipment prices...it's like watching money burn

Mine arrived on saturday

WOW

Blows my Force3 out the water. Seriously, actual real world noticeable improvement. Windows boots probably twice as fast as the Corsair. Plus the corsair was secure erased to bring performance back and it was still way slower.

Very impressed with the Samsung

Progress today installing Samsung 256Gb. crawled to a virtual halt. First it was not recognized so call to tech who helped me initialise, however comments were I did not know they were that cheap when he looked up my invoice for reference, secondly you will not be successful in cloning one SSD to another. Thought I had proved him wrong when I eventually after several false starts managed the clone. Opened up my Antec 1200 case to swop drives and beyond me how to get to the drive retaining screws, later discovered but not yet tried all thumb screws both sides need removing and bays slide forward, yet to be achieved. Balancing tjhe new on the old for a test the pc will not boot and calls for windows disk for repair, can I find it ,no, where is the product key it aint on the case so used software to find it. Downloading windows in a mo and hopefully installing on new SSD attached via usb. Will I have problems, probably, but had a cup of tea and ready to have another try.
