Liking Swiftkey, but I get a keyboard icon in my notification bar (allowing me to Select input method) whenever I'm using it. Anywhere to turn that off?

@stoosh
Thanks for those photos
Ah, thought the case covered the volume buttons going by the first lot of pics. That is good then!
The bumpy texture on the sides doesn't look as bad in that first photo there.
Really do like the way it keeps the front minimal but with a tiny bit of a "lip".
Having a look around for these rock cases for the S as well now, unfortunately they don't cover the top or bottom fully either. Want to see why everyone is ranting and raving about them in the GS 3 thread![]()
That speaks volumes when I'm stating that HTC's supposed mid range phone actually bests its flagship phone the One X. I highly recommend the One S to anyone who doesn't want a large device.
I don't think it bests it. I think it offers a very good alternative if you want better battery life or a smaller phone. Usually the alternatives to the flagships are quite inferior, which isn't the case here.
I'd want the One S SoC for the power efficiency more than the performance gains (because they aren't really noticeable in general use).
Still, it's lame the Americans get the best of both. Why not just use the same for everything?
Nvidia should also stop making SoC's as well. They seem useless.
I think the S3 beats them both though in truth unless you think it looks horrible (which is understandable). I did too at first but I don't mind it too much now, it's hardly exciting though.
No worries MateOf all the cases I've used the one in the pictures has given my One S the best protection. I do have the chipping issue in the back of my mind that's why every couple of days I take the One S out of its case and check it, thankfully a few months on it hasn't got any chipping on the edges.
I have to say that HTC have done a wonderful job on the One S, I've said this before but will say it again HTC should've put the S4 chip in the European version of the One X.
The One S has an incredible battery life and the phone is so fast, no matter what you throw at it the One S doesn't slow down at all. People might complain about the qHD display but I think it's actually very good and watching movies and browsing the internet is a joy. Shame about the amount of memory available but I've got around it by not having absolutely every music album I own on the phone and only carrying the "must haves." If you're frugal with the memory then it shouldn't cause you any problems.
Although Sense 4 is lighter then any of its previous iterations I've installed Nova Launcher on the One S and the phone just simply flies. I thought that the S2 was possibly the best phone I ever owned but that accolade goes to S3 closely followed by the One S.

When we see the S3 benchmarks with the S4 chip - and if it beats the One S/X (One XL) benchies by a significant margin - then we'll know that Sense ain't as well optimised as it should be.
I think the S3 actually looks better in real life then in the pictures and is ergonomically very user friendly.

Yeah, unfortunately that is always at the back of mind as well and will be with the nillkin case
With the tough case on I don't worry or care really, but hated loosing the minimal sleek design.
I think in the end, I will just get a case like the one you got and be done with it and just enjoy using the phone.
That is the problem with HTC, they make good decisions for some phones but then go and xxxx up in another area
Yeah same, it is a screen that needs to be seen in person (and not side by side with the X/GS 3 etc.) in order to truly appreciate it IMO. I thought it was going to be pretty poor before I even laid eyes on it but was very pleased when I seen it in person
the qHD res at 4.3" is just perfect for screen real estate space IMO, obviously it would have been great to have had 720P.
I only notice the pentile effects when you have white text on black backgrounds and on some icons but I have to put my eyes right up to the screen.
Was watching the hills have eyes (rubbish film) and a bit of 28 weeks later last night via TV catchup and the quality is very good although in dark spots very blotchy but I think this is a problem with the app as I haven't noticed it on the youtube app or when watching films with BS player etc.
Same, but apex for me instead!
Completely agree with you about the "mid range" tag to the S.
Since you own the GS 3 and S, what do you think of the speed/smoothness when compared? Which feels faster/smoother in general use when opening apps, scrolling etc. What about rendering and loading web pages (using ICS browser +)?
I imagine the GS 3 will have a smoother overall feel due to the better tweaks that Samsung have applied and touchwiz in general being better optimized and "lighter"?
Used a GS 3 in the shop and both felt the same to me pretty much for speed and smoothness although for web browsing and watching youtube my one S on H connection was far quicker than the GS 3 connected to wifi, pretty sure it was a problem with the wifi connection though as it took like 15 secs for the youtube video to buffer.
It looks like HTC completely messed up putting the S4 in the One S. Samsung, Asus, Sony, LG, HTC etc are all scrapping over 28nm supplies for flagship devices. (It looks like Samsung financially out muscled the rest to secure the S4 for LTE SGS3 phones. Asus and Sony are facing huge delays)
Sticking it in a mid range phone that won't sell in large numbers was crazy, they've probably lost quite a bit in unsold stock
*1.7-2GHz S4, 2GB RAM and 3.8v battery.
snip
5100 in quadrant and looks smooth.
The chipping issue overshadowed the launch of the One S and with quite a few owners reporting the problem and reading various complaints on XDA I must admit it did scare me, however it did not put me off in finding a One S which didn't have the problem.
HTC have never been consistent, to think that they were the market leaders years ago for when Android was just taking off and to where they are now you'd think that maybe they would get their strategy spot on. They needed the One X to really sell well and give Samsung a run for their money, maybe they will, who knows.....
Reading all the reviews of the One S , reviewers were complaining about the screen and I really thought it was going to be poor and I dreaded seeing the HTC One S in person for the first time as my heart had been set on the phone because of the S4 chip and size of the phone. However like you I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it and that immediately swung my decision to buy it. Note that at the time I had a One X as well however I various build issues with the One X as well as the Tegra 3 chip sipping juice like there's no tomorrow! The switch to the One S was easy to make and I didn't regret getting rid of the One X.
The Hills have eyes is a rubbish film!28 days later is much better!
The HTC One S can run most films / tv eps but like you I use a different player than the HTC stock app, I use MX player which plays everything I throw at it![]()
As much as I love my One S and think it's a brilliant device overall the S3 is just a little bit better.
I don't play games however the S3 does seem smoother as games like Canabalt and Virtua Tennis run abit smoother than on the One S.
One area where the One S is better than the G3 is video recording (audio wise) the video is better on the G3 however the audio is much better on the One S. I also think that the HTC camera interface is far more user friendly than its Touchwiz counterpart.
If you don't mind big phones then the G3 would be my phone of choice (the Galaxy Note) is too large for my liking however those in the market for a 4.3" phone should definitely go for the HTC One S.
It renders and opens web pages really quickly and the extra real estate when watching films and browsing the web does help.
@Nexus18 Siri and Svoice are all very gimmicky for me, the S2 had something similar and I never once used Vlingo or whatever it was called. I don't know about anyone else but these voice apps aren't for me!
Someone would think you have a HTC One S.
Indeed! As well as the signal issue, which had me worried too.
Yup, they had a great run with the desire, nexus one etc. but things went down hill quickly for them after that unfortunatelyIf the one x/S didn't have those main issues (which did put an awful lot of people off) and had a SD slot and had just used the S4 in the X as well, I honestly think they would have been back to top again easily along with the right marketing though as the GS 3 wasn't as mind blowing as we all expected like it was with the GS 2 compared to the sensation etc.
As Samsung have done a pretty good job with their marketing and creating so much hype for the phone and their brand (not a patch on apple though) that people are now "devoted" to Samsung and won't even consider any other phone brand now.
Yeah that was actually the only complaint they had with the phone, not that it wasn't 720P, but was pentile and the limited storage, they absolutely loved the rest of the phone though especially gsmarena.
Indeed!
Also use that video player as it can play some files better than what BS player lite can over LAN mode, however, the quality wasn't as good as BS player I found (maybe a setting that I need to change though)
I was actually surprised with stock sense player as it played any film file I threw at perfectly fine. Was expecting a stuttery mess!
Yeah, if I was offered the GS 3 (the new blue version) as a free upgrade or for a swap or only a £50 difference, I would take it due to:
- better 1080P video recording quality
- better screen
- more storage
- NFC (even though I wouldn't use itbut for future proof)
- being able to use an extended battery for even better battery life
- better notification LED (not that important but the one on the S is pretty rubbish IMO)
However, I would be buying a nice looking case for it (one, which preferably covers all sides and the back fully) and rooting and flashing it with a tweaked Samsung ROM and ICS theme ASAP
I would thoroughly miss sense V4 though, mostly the camera UI and features (especially slow motion recording), dialer, gallery with all the editing features, the UI/colour scheme throughout the menus and some other sense features/tweaks and obviously the look/design of the S!
Same, not a huge gamer either. Only really play the N64, sega ROM emulator.
Although this PS thing that the one series mobiles are getting looks rather good.
I noticed that myself in the video samples by the GS 3, wasn't very pleasing, although I imagine Samsung will fix/tweak it at some stage or some developer will sort it out, probably within the next week no doubt
The stereo recording is superb on the S though.
Likewise, note is just stupidly big, GS 3/X are the biggest I would go for and as said the GS 3 really isn't much of a problem as it feels good in the hand.
A lot quicker than the S? Even when best wifi performance is enabled?
Completely agree!
Good to show off to friends but apart from that, completely pointless!![]()
Jesus there's some long posts on this page![]()
