*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Wow I can't believe that Rainforest are selling the HTC One S for £377.49. Quite literally pound for pound that's a bargain. IMHO aside from the S3 the HTC One S is one of the best android phones on the market and the S4 chip is what the UK version of the One X should've had.

I also like to add that I haven't had any chipping issue with my HTC One S and it's as good a new even though it's one of the older versions that was released and not the new version that's out.

HOX with S4  That would literally be a dream! Would have been good to have that version as well. Best of both phones in one, SLCD2 along with S4.

Just under £400 doesn't strike me as being that cheap...?

Comparing to SIM Free prices, it's a bargain for us UK folks. As you get the minutes/texts/data thrown in for £16. Much cheaper than other contracts. Affordable by most for a good phone.

I'd say it's a good entry phone for those without smart phones as well at this price range.

It does suck that we don't have the US version of the One X. That could quite easily have the S3 beaten for everything bar storage IMO.

Just another ridiculous decision from HTC.

You can buy it from three for £370 and have been able to since release day pretty much :p

All you need then is a £2 unlock code from ebay so you can use any SIM with it then :)

Yeah same for me as well still, what about your USB port area?

Just under £400 doesn't strike me as being that cheap...?

It is pretty damn good value considering what you get IMO, especially when you could have bought it for about that price since release day.

And IMO really doesn't make the GS 3 and X worth considering unless you need more storage and want a 720P screen.

Indeed!

If only the XL was released here as well! Although you still have the same storage as the S.

Only reason they went with "quad" was for marketing purposes :( :o

Same reason Samsung went with the quad in their GS 3 as well.

That could quite easily have the S3 beaten for everything bar storage IMO.

Just another ridiculous decision from HTC.

+1

It really is weird the way HTC come up with some phones and decisions, if it isn't battery life that sucks, it is the storage and if it isn't any of those it will then have a **** screen :p

And then they go and release the best out of them all for only the USA!!!!

Considering that when it was released just a few months ago the phone was £450 sim free, I consider the price drop of nearly £100 cheap...

@nikzGfx It would've been a dream! The One XL will be released in Germany this month, if I can get my hands on it I'm definitely going to order one!

@Nexus18 My USB port area isn't showing any wear and tear around the edges, there's only slight wear (grooves) inside the USB port but other than that it's ok.
What about your USB port?

afaik - Tegra 3 SoC is cheaper to buy than the S4. And the S4 supply is tight.

That's a shame because I think that more people would've bought the S4 version of the One X. One of the reasons that I got rid of the One X is because Tegra 3 would literally eat the battery. It was absolutely fine when you would leave the phone alone because the "ninja core" did the trick but when you began to use the phone you could quite literally see the battery level deplete!

Let's hope that when Qualcomm release S4 pro that it will be more widely available.

Yeah also those reasons as well, shame :(

Motorola and LG are also going to be using the s4 chip in a few of their upcoming devices iirc, so can imagine the demand being pretty damn high!

Sounds like you got lucky with yours as well then :)

Mine appears to only be chipped around the edges of the inside part, so not too bad either, will post a photo later.

I flick between having a tough case on and the device just "naked" a fair bit and still no signs of chipping on the sides and top so far *touch wood*

Getting a nillkin case next week hopefully and the top will be exposed permanently then, so hopefully I won't have any future problems either otherwise I may have to just buy a TPU gel skin cover :(

Yes I was lucky however I had to go through 4 HTC One S which all exhibited the chipping problem before I struck lucky with this one Mate.

I've used the official HTC leather pouch for my phone however I got bored of taking the phone out of the pouch when I had to use it. In the end I settled for a TPU case from ebay which has done the job nicely.

However Nillkin are high quality cases and you've done well to get that brand as that will protect the HTC One S nicely!

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the case when you get it delivered.

At least you got a good one in the end then, eventually! :p

Did you return it to where you bought it from or via HTC directly each time?

Was looking at pouch cases myself as well when I just got the S, but too much faff is required plus I would be more likely drop the mobile taking it out of the pouch and putting it back in :p :o

Yeah, love the look of the nillkin, they are my ideal cases, just wish they covered the top and bottom a bit more though :p

Will be posting a full review of it not long after I receive the case :)

Although it could be a bit longer till I actually receive the case as I think it is being shipped from China so :( :p

Nice one guys! :D

I look forward to hearing what you think of the S when you get your hands on them! :)

The one S is finally getting more popular now! About time as well! :p :D

The first two were ordered from Rainforest so I had no hassle returning each of them and getting a refund. CPW were my next stop and when that phone turned out to have the chipping problem they offered me an exchange / refund straight away. I took a refund and waited for 3 weeks hoping that a new batch of HTC One S's would be released.

I placed an order from Handtec who assured me that none of their HTC One S batches had been affected and if I was to come across the chipping problem then they would offer an exchange / refund, thankfully this HTC One S turned out to be fine.

Pouch cases are too much hassle and you're right the chances of dropping the phone once you've taken it out of the case are high if you're not too careful, although pouch type case offer all round protection when the phone is inside the case they offer nothing when your using the phone and I rather not take that chance.

You can get the Nillkin TGP case instead which covers the top and bottom instead of the Niilkin slim case, yes it adds a little more bulk but at least you've got the whole phone covered.

I look forward to the review when you get the case eventually from China! :)

I ordered my TGP case from this seller on ebay and I've ordered 5-6 cases from them and they're very good.

Same as before I imagine :D

+ Cracking design, materials, build, battery life and speed.
- No storage space, grainy screen and questionable software choices (multi tasking and software menu key etc)

My contract is up for renewal next month so £14.50pm for unlimited data, 200 mins and a free One S (without redemption faff) is too good to pass up.

Which one is that? The only other one for the S that I can see is this (there site is incredibly slow! :o)

The top & bottom is still exposed slightly.

Have been looking at that cases as well! Quite like the look of them.

Could you post a couple of photos with the case on the S please? :)

Other cases that I am looking at in case I don't get along with the nillkin and signs of chipping start to show on the top is the:

HTC One S TPU Gel Skin Case / Cover - Solid Black PART OF THE QUBITS ACCESSORIES RANGE

On the rainforest site for £3 (free delivery).

Would prefer the matte black one, but I can't find it for the S anywhere! :(

:p

I think you may be pleasantly pleased with the screen when it is isolated and not beside the X/GS 3/iphone 4/4s/SE phones :p

Yup, unfortunately you will have to get use to the evil 3 dot menu button unless you root and flash a tweak to get rid of it. Praying that HTC/app developers will sort it out sometime soon! :p

As for multi-tasking, it seems to be a bit of a problem when you use most of the sense apps, launcher etc. along with 3rd party apps. I no longer do (well apart from the dialer and SMS app along with the basics like calendar, gallery etc. the rest has been disabled) and haven't had any problems with the multi-tasking except when you return to the browser sometimes the pages will reload, but the beauty of having the S4 processor is that everything is so quick/instant so you don't really have to wait for the apps etc. to relaunch anyway :p :D

Indeed! You got yourself a great bargain there
