£10,000 diesel - What's the least soul destroying and why?

What toys did you get with that?

Climate control
Keyless entry and start (comfort access in the Porsche world :p thanks fox lol)
17" alloys
LED rear lights
Trip computer
Steering audio controls
Electric mirrors

Things that it misses which is probably in the fiesta

Bluetooth
Leather
iPod integration (although I retro fitted mine)

If I were to spend £10k, I would get all the above, not in a fiesta though, and certainly don't want to do 20k miles in one. I love my car on A roads but make no bones about it, it's not the best cruiser on motorways and I did 300 miles of that this weekend and I would get an auto box. Was going pass Birmingham on Friday in the rain, the constant start stop due to the change of speed limit to 40mph due to the weather means there was a lot of phantom traffic jams and changing gears in those conditions was not fun one single bit.

This seems a strange decision, because all the toys in the world cannot make up for the fact that this isn't a car that's great for doing 20k miles per year on motorways. You could get a decent Mk4 Mondeo for 10k.

The missus has only been driving for a year so insurance is A LOT cheaper. She'll also be doing a decent chunk out of the mileage.

Originally she was going to keep her Ka but has now decided to use the new car which now means I need to consider her and the fact that the car is so cheap and we are both contributing towards it means I can afford something daft and temperamental for a few grand :p

I have a Fiesta Zetec S and it's a great car for what it is. Wouldn't fancy doing serious motorway mileage in it though, I find a 70 mile round trip in it once a week tiring.

Alloys, rear lights, trip computer, steering wheel controls and electric mirrors are surely available on most new cars as standard right?

Tell that to the guy on here who put down about £11k on a Polo with no climate, steel wheels and the only toy is the cd player.

Surely will still have steering wheel controls, trip computer and electric mirrors?

P.S. I didn't put climate in that list as, I'm fully aware climate isn't standard are most cars these days. Good luxury!!

I really like the new Fiesta models, especially the Zetec S model. It does come with loads of extras included as standard. Bluetooth is really good, first one I've witness connect to an iPhone with ease and it shows the name of the songs and artist on the in dash screen (never seen this before, except for after-market head units). I constantly consider one as my next car when I downgrade from the Focus ST when fuel will hit the inevitable £1.50+ mark.

However, a small fiesta will be no fun on the M1 for 20k miles. Tootling to work and round town, I think they are perfect. The 1.6 petrol engine is powerful enough for those circumstances. Have you looked at Focus Titanium models? Will be that little more comfortable on the motorway...

Alloys yes, LED lights no, MFSW no, electric mirrors no.

What's this based on?

Even the new Kia Picanto comes with alloys, front LED daytime running lights, rear LED lights, steering wheel controls, front and rear fogs, Speed Variable Front Wipers, Heated Front Seats, Electric & Heated Door Mirrors, LED Side Repeaters etc... as standard on the 1.25 Picanto...!!!

Even my Dad's 11 year old Focus has electric mirrors, it also came with a tape player and not much else so it can't be accused of being a 'high spec' one.

I find the seat in the fiesta twists my back just a tiny bit, means if i'm not careful i can be in pain after 20-30 mins driving. Its like the seat is about 1cm too far to the left :(

and the people talking about low spec cars, the old shape Ka you could get on an 07 plate with a cassette deck, manual windows/mirrors, steel wheels and manual locking (not even central locking!)
