How do you stop cats crapping in your garden?

It's still bugging me that few people are noting that fact the vast majority of cats bury their poo and don't just do it on the ground anyway.

As for the anti-freeze 'joke', unless the cat had no sense of smell I think it's unlikely he would drink it. Cats don't see a bowl and recognise that as something it should drink from, it just smells everything and eats/drinks what it knows it can. And they are FAR more fussy than dogs who will pretty much eat anything you put in front of them.

Thee's a car garage near me who have lots of toxic liquids kicking about and as far as I know my cats yet to have lapped any of that up.

Birds are natural and have a right to roam this planet but a pet that has been breed for pleasure should be kept in doors or if let out cleaned up after by the owner.

Sorry but what if young children are playing in the garden, why should people have to go out and check the grass/soil for cat ****

When I was a kid I always noticed cat **** on the grass and soil in both front and back garden. It stinks if you step in it and not doubt carries a lot of nasty stuff.

Same reason if you knock down a cat and you can carry on driving, where as a dog you have to stop.

And a cat is un-natural? What if its a wild cat? Does it have the right to roam the planet?

At least cats take the time to bury their poo and this is the graditude they get...

Pull the other one.

A cats effort to bury its feces consists of dropping it where ever, then a single flick of its back leg.

Unfortunately, not true, a friend of mine has had 4 cats poisoned recently with antifreeze left in a saucer of milk. According to the vet it's pretty much odourless and tastes sweet so they actually like it - it causes renal failure amongst other things.

The SSPCA, on the other hand, do not like it very much and tend to get the police involved :D

As far as the OP is concerned, a good water pistol/super soaker should do the trick...

Because we leave scraps out for the Foxs we quite often find Fox poop in the garden!
I simply grab the garden spade and chuck it into the back of the flower beds , very simple, very quick and the minor problem is solved!
You really need to get a life if stuff like this angers or upsets you! Get a grip FFS!

but they should be.

Not a cat fan, but have had them before.

From my perspective a cat should be treated no differently to any other animal, they should be kept safe indoors/on owners property.

There should be no immediate nullation of being held responsible as an owner of a cat should they cause nuisance/damage.

Want to keep cats, fine, just keep them under your control.

Must admit I have had most pleasure from water bombing cats, I have found 2 or 3 direct hits and they rarely come back. You can spice the water up a bit with random liquids, honey, shampoo etc. Nothing that will hurt it but enough to give it or its owner some fun cleaning up.

Personally I believe the vast majority of cat owners are cat owners because they are poor animal owners, they like the fact they can have a low maintenance pet just bunging it outside nothing to clear up after etc. The best cat owners I have ever known have refused to let them outside as the risk of being run over etc isn't worth the risk. But I say again the typical lazy cat owner will prefer to let it out to **** in someone elses garden and that way they avoid the clean up.

The difference is that things like dogs are trainable animals, whereas cats cannot be trained to any real degree, this is why cats are classes as wild animals that are kept, not pets that are owned.

Lets all remember that given the choice dolphins would have cats and their smarter than we are :P

LOL at the butthurt cat lover bitslice.

The fact of the matter is that you cannot stop cats from crapping in your garden. There are many old wives tales and products out there which lay claim to being able to stop it but they are flawed. The only way to stop it is to remove the cats or to cover up your flower beds.

I have had a lot of trouble with cats ****ting in my gardens and have concluded that the sort of cat owners who let their cats roam free are the sort of people who don't care and are not willing to make any effort to resolve matters. I have approached some and the responses have varied from "sorry" to "**** off".

If you have a lot of spare time you can spend it using water pistols and various other methods to scare the cats enough for them to get the idea. If you work for a living, you'll just have to accept cats burying **** in your garden unless you're willing to take the risk of killing the cat. In that case, you have to ask yourself if it's worth it. Ignoring the morality, there are a lot of butthurt crusading cat owners out there with a lot of time on their hands and if they even so much as get a sniff that you killed a cat you'll be in for a world of pain.

Yeah because I really want to sit in the garden on a hot summers day with cat **** in the on the soil, not everyone has a massive garden.

Like I said cats do it on soil AND grass.

Cat owners shouldn't moan if their cat is injured by someone that is sick to death of cleaning up after it or other cats in the area.

99% of cat owners are creepy anyway.

I've had a cat for 22 years and it has never **** on the lawn, or anyone that I've been able to see it. Come to think of it, I've never seen either of our cats **** outside, and they rarely use the litter tray inside.

People should get over the idea that, although it's possible to keep humans off their land, animals give a *** about your land borders.

The guy repeatedly advocates killing cats with antifreeze, even when I point out what an horrific death that is he still thinks it is funny :(

LOL - nope your OTT keyboard warrior-esq reaction to it was funny...

Whether any of you are serious or not, it doesn't take away from the fact that joking about this makes it acceptable to some people, they then go out and do this for real.

If someone was going to do it for real they'd go and do it for real.... look at replies 3 through to 9... at the start of the thread....

OMG

this guy advocated using a trap... quick lets call him out and offer a fight.... :D

(FWIW since you're keen on obsessively looking through post histories - you'll maybe note that I'd advocated using bleach in a couple of tooth whitening threads... yeah totally serious suggestion... :D )
