***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I take it you just took the plunge and bought it? Seems a waste just to get an LED for Handcent when it does all the other ones I want for free :(

Just tried Lightflow Free too. Can confirm that it doesn't work with Handcent :( Not paying because I know CM will bring different LED indicator colours.

Under-clocking doesn't necessarily mean you'll get much better battery life. In fact, in certain scenarios it may well be worse because your CPU will spend less time in deep sleep because the clock speed is lower. Food for thought ;)

I have Light Flow Lite working OK with Handcent on my Galaxy Nexus.

Initially it wasn't working, but I ticked "Enable notifcation", "Alternate on monitoring" and "Alternate off monitoring", as well as disabling the stock SMS app and it is OK now.

Not sure why it wouldn't work on a SGS3?

This doesn't make sense? you are removing the upper cpu limit from 1.4 to 1.2, that wont effect deep sleep will it?

Why does it not make sense, lower clock speed less voltage = more battery.

It wouldn't affect deep sleep at all.

But there is a different school of thought, where it should run at the highest clock speed possible to finish task quicker. So the device can go back to sleep (race to idle).

Basis: If a CPU can complete a task faster, it will return to sleep (depending on the governor used) and use less power in deep sleep. If the task takes longer to complete, then the CPU is being used for longer and spends less time in sleep.

I was in exactly the same situation, I had my S2 setup just how I liked it, I'm not a phone power user and just like having a nice phone.

The camera is miles better on the S3, mainly because of no shutter lag so you won't ever miss a photo while it's saving or not letting you take a photo with is a massive bonus.

I'm selling my S2 to a friend with 2 batteries, an extended battery, a charging dock, an office power pack and 2 cases (just to show you all the extra bits and pieces I had for mine).

Battery on the S3 for me so far appears to be about 10%-20% better than the extended S2 battery.

Get it :)

Indeed, I've been using my S3 since Friday and love it, also had a S2 but I had to flash the O2 ROM on there because I'm selling it and it feels so small.

Couldnt use that device again :D

Thanks for encouragement both....I'm being drawn towards it. I'm pretty sure I'll tip over and get it after I've had an envious mooch at my mates'... :)

FWIW, Nandroid backups are 2GB+ on this monster!

Great thing though is that with CWM app you can choose to restore just the kernel setup if you often try different kernels, or modem or just the data partition etc. Makes restoration a breeze, saves time.

Sheesh!! I thought the S2 nandroids were big at 1GB+... Won't be doing loads and loads of diff rom backups like I've been doing at that sorta size. Out of interest, how long did it take to do the backup with the quad core?

So then...1.8GHz?

Siyah allows for it :p

Edit*
S3 Nandroid backup took about the same time as the S2, though I never timed the S2, it felt like ~8 minutes I guess.

Woooo guess what I finally have in my greasy little mitts? :p

I shouldn't have worried overmuch about the Blue... like has been said its a gunmetal-esque colour in normal light, and in direct sunlight its an purply blue metallic sheen... different and quite pleasant actually.

Sorting some stuff out now but will root and check out ROMs later on. :D

Why use handcent anyway, the built in sms is enough on the s3 - You can change colours of the backgrounds.

At the risk of stating the obvious, different sms/email (etc) apps allow different features and customisation. If the stock apps were "enough" for everything you do on your phone, then no one would be installing different apps would they? :p

Ewwwww.

Plus Handcent has my profile and popup settings etc.

Though I do like the lockscreen notification thing for stock. That bubble is cool. Sucks that Handcent doesn't use it. But if somebody knows how to do that, that would be awesome!

I see your second point :)

My first point i was thinking the same as you though :D
