***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Anyone got any more updates from play.com for the blue?

Nope :( I cancelled mine:
I cancelled my play.com order for the blue. I spoke to Amazon and they said they will be getting enough stock tomorrow to fulfill my order if I place it now so I did, supposed to arrive on Monday. Hopefully Amazon are trustworthy, we'll see!

I'm pleased I did, the Amazon website now says in stock and my order has changed to 'dispatching soon'. :)

I walked into an O2 store in Birmingham and got my Blue today.

Very impressed with it! It also looks much better in the flesh and I'm very happy I waited for the Blue (I was very close to cracking and getting the white last weekend!)

Now to remember how everything works on Android...

Has anyone noticed the lock screen doing weird stuff to the image you pick ?

At the moment mine is this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xhzc6aqzf4aozrj/android(1).jpg

Used as a lock screen it looks like this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u5s6wll1a2602eb/Screenshot_2012-06-15-19-02-28.png
Note the white cloudy bits on the right... This screenshot looks somewhat "grey" rather than the black I see on the screen.

At first I thought it was the screen screwing up, but I can view the exact same image in gallery and its fine, I can also set it as the home screen and its fine there too, so its something they deliberately do to the image on the lock screen. I tried another image that had a black background and it did the same thing...

Im using the standard Email app, but i still can not get either of my accounts to automaticlly load up in mail picture anyone else having the same problem ? It just loads up in text no matter what settings I use.

Anyone know how to delete the blank slides that you see once you unlock? I think there's 7 of them, but I'm only using two.

If its what I think you mean, then 'pinch' one of the screens so you have all 7 on display. Then delete the ones you dont want by dragging them to the bin.

If I read it wrong then ignore this :)

Overclocked to 1.6GHz now but undervolted -50mV, no crahes/issues at all to report.

Heavy phone usage over the last 20 hours or so but over 3 hours screen on time and all day on HSDPA got me down to 4%.

Quadrant (I know it means nothing but as a comparison to stock 5300 ish)

It's on any image you set as the lockscreen for me (except it makes live wallpapers darker than the unlocked bizarrely) , the gamma is raised for some reason, I don't know why. I have a manual brightness set to around half if it helps.

Thank you guys for your accessories reviews. Nice to hear mrk's opinion on the fake Rock case :D I might try to post some pics of some of my accessories in the accessories thread later too.

Let me just again gush at how awesome this battery life is. I decided to do a more energy efficient/conservative mode of usage - but still do/use what I need to do/use etc. If I wanted to download something on 3G for 5 minutes, I will. This isn't a test to eek out the best standby on the phone.

Full charged before bed and woke up (5% drain):

Just before death:

Phone died at 9:28 am - here's the after pics:

God, I can't wait for the extended!

^ given the thing has done 4:45hrs screen time and 35 hours standby too, I'd say that was pretty good.

Little update on my sd card issues.. its all very odd.
Plugging the phone in still causes issues, tonight I plugged the phone in and everything was working fine. Unplugged and used the card in a card reader, still fine.
Put it back in the phone, plug in and although the phone shows as a device in windows explorer I can't open it, cursor goes busy and it just wont expand the device tree.

Card back in the card reader, media monkey thinks its > 70Gb in size.

Plug in to my laptop, fine. Put the card back in the phone, plug in to media machine, this time I can expand the device, but it only shows a handful of tracks again.

I've now formatted the card in the phone and am syncing to it via the card reader.

Is it possible there is some sort of hardware conflict with the phone, USB and the motherboard in the media machine ? Is there a better place to ask about this stuff on OCUK ? The motherboard is an Asus H8M67M PRO, tried both usb 2 and 3 ports.

I need your help guys!

I rooted my phone a few days ago and I updated my phone through kies and now its no longer rooted, what shall I do? Shall I do the same procedure again with the same files?

edit: nvm I actually done it, I reused the same files, I thought it would have changed the firmware version or something lol. I'm new to the Android universe :p

That battery life summary there seems ok, not great IMO.........

Reason I say not great, is because there wasn't a wifi/data connection for most of the time (this would really help battery life and in fact I am surprised that you didn't get more out of it due to this), mostly watching videos (which is pretty damn good regarding battery consumption for AMOLED screens), very little browsing (this is the main killer on AMOLED mobiles).

What were the film files that you were playing? MKV, AVI, 1080, 720 etc.?

What do you have that syncs in the background and how often does it sync i.e. emails, weather etc.?

EDIT:

Also what about phone calls and texts or whatsapp use?

Still very good anyway considering the screen size and when you compare it to the X battery life :p

Actually could someone really put the battery to the test by browsing for at least 1 hour on a wifi connection, doesn't have to be flash/image intensive sites, any website you visit in general would do combined with your other general usage and post some screenshots when you hit 15% or lower (of the battery info as done above and browser time [can see this just by clicking on whatever the browser is called in the battery usage chart] please:)

Browsing rapes the battery on my S :(

I see that you've missed where I said

I decided to do a more energy efficient/conservative mode of usage - but still do/use what I need to do/use etc. If I wanted to download something on 3G for 5 minutes, I will. This isn't a test to eek out the best standby on the phone.

I didn't set out to do anything other than be a little conservative with my phone. That means pretty much everything I described in my image with notes. Was it intense usage? No. Not even 2 minutes of talk time and texting was under a couple dozen. Email was push but I switched 3G on and off throughout my work day. I have my live wall news and weather synched every hour but again, it was on-off demand. Browsing was kept at a minimal probably not even an hour total. But I didn't stop myself doing anything out of the ordinary (yes, I turn data/wifi and gps on and off quite a lot) as I actually wanted to see what I could take from it.

If you want to browse for 3 hours on the S3 or game for 3 hours on the S3 then obviously it's going to burn through the power really quickly regardless of the battery life. Considering I've burnt over 1GB (1.32 to be exact) of my data allowance ( 700mb of Playstore/Samsung App and why the hell is Six Guns classed by itself?... oh god...) on 3G during this week, I like to think that I've been using this phone a bit more than I usually will in the future.

I'm really bemused that people don't think the S3 battery life is crazy good. It's no Razr Maxx but it trumps every other smart phone in such a silly fashion. And there hasn't been an update for it yet, even.

At the moment, I'm getting at least 4 hours screen on time from this phone with my moderate usage. Like I said already: I can't wait for the extended battery. Maybe my wish for a 6 hour screen on phone will come true...

Ah sorry! I just looked at the screenshots and quickly read some stuff to see any info. regarding phone calls etc. :p :o

You must being doing something (which you haven't listed) then that is taking a lot of power up or an app that is running in the background constantly? I imagine that you should be getting much better than that since you were very conservative (going by your notes on the chart I consider that to be very conservative :p).

What do you get if you just leave wifi/data connection on and allow the apps etc. to sync automatically with a few phone calls, about 25-35 minute of browsing, no games etc.?

Have you got better battery stats? If yes, what are the main things that are consuming battery life?

What is your reception like?

You forgot about the HTC one S :p It is just as good, maybe a bit better overall than the GS 3 regarding battery life:

Some more shots of battery life (these will definitely be the last ones, I promise! :p Unless I manage to get some ridiculous on screen time or something :p), this time I adjusted brightness via qbright when necessary so brightness was set to either 0% (at night and first thing in the morning, so probably about 30 minutes in total for each day then), 30% brightness (during the day indoors, so most of the day) and then 50 or 70% when outdoors (about 15-20 minutes each day, maybe).

Usage was much of the same (good bit of browsing, phone calls, texts, whatsapp, a lot of messing around with apps, youtube as well as the usual syncing for weather apps etc.) except this time a fair amount of files/photos/1080P videos transfer via estrongs and wifi transfer with wifi max performance enabled during these transfers and quite a lot of speedtests via wifi along with a bit of GPS usage in google maps and whilst in the speedtest app. Had H connection for a bit when browsing and camera (photos plus 1080P recording) usage as well as about 30 minutes in total of TV catchup etc.

I just love the battery life! :D

Similar usage as stated before, but a bit more heavy use for web browsing this time and automatic brightness:

From what I have seen regarding mrks and gmans usage, I think it is excellent especially considering the screen size and res! However, others not so much........ But I am more inclined to believe what I have seen here so far than the other forums and my friends battery life, so about 4 hours on screen time with heavy use, which is very good.

EDIT:

With the extended battery, you will most easily hit 6 hours on screen time :)
