Are you a feminist?

When we look at what woman had to live through growing up

It is clear the patriarchal based society is scummy as hell and backwards.

so you think people over/under certain ages should pay the same too? statistically women who do have accidents don't do as much damage, so they don't get stung with the premiums of men who statistically do a lot more damage.
same goes for older people, they use their cars less, or whatever. and statistically younger drivers have less experience and have more accidents.

I can't be bothered quoting statistics and reports I do it every day. Statistically there are more male drivers than females. A male driver is likely to drive more on average than a female and also further than a female. If the figures are averaged, females cause more accidents for their class of driver than men but are involved in fewer accidents than men because there's less female drivers than male drivers. Females are cautious, hesitant drivers and this is why they tend to have less serious accidents as they aren't going fast enough to do much damage.

I think a lot of people that label themselves as feminists really mean that they are Egalitarianist as feminism suggests you are positively discriminating in favour of females.

I would label myself Egalitarian to a degree but more so as a Complementarianist; despite not being at all religious I buy into the belief that men and women naturally fill different roles in a relationship or family and that usually the man will be a leader and the woman fills a supporting role in which they both compliment one another positively in a symbiotic relationship. This scenario isn't always exclusive to just that though of course.

I don't see your point  I was saying that women should have cheaper insurance (as should older people) and younger people and males should have higher as they cost insurance companies more. which you have pretty much backed up.

The number of accidents doesn't matter, all an insurer is interested about when appriasing risk is how much that risk profile is likely to cost them.

If a woman reverses into a bollard 10 times in 5 years and does 500 quid of damage each time it's still a lower risk than the guy who parks like a pro but every 5 years flings his Subaru Impreza throuhg a hedge, backwards, on fire, at 100mph.

When guys crash, they tend to crash properly.

I have decided that I am against feminism. I am not against feminists only feminism. I think that men and woman are not equal and they are different. There are strange exceptions to this but the natural family depends on men and woman being different. Feminism is not about equality it is about feminizing men and attacking male dominance. Does that mean that I think women should stay in the kitchen and men should work? no, that is not what i think, men and woman should both work if they have to. If it is possible financially to have only one parent working then that would be the ideal situation. Feminism tends to come down to silly arguments like the separation of toys in to male and female toys at a toy store. Recently I read some feminist teacher wants to mix the toys up so that boys can buy toys made for girls without it being called a girls toy.

I dont think I can really agree with this. It seems to be trying to force natural differences to make societal differences acceptable. There is very little in the way of natural reasons why a man makes a better leader, in fact in our current society our testosterone probably makes us worse leaders.

Once again I find myself disagreeing with almost everything you have to say. Should I stop my daughter playing with Star Wars lego because it is a "boy's toy"?

lego is not a boys toy. the male toys are more unisex than the toys for girls. If you say that you don't like specific girls toys because they are BS. like a mini kitchen or something. Then I could agree with you. But to try and force very feminine toys on to boys like that would be the wrong kind of feminism.

No, but the specific brand of lego (in this case Star Wars) is marketed at boys. Do keep up.

Yes it is marketed at boys for a reason. This is not some overtly sexist reason. They have just done research over the years to what types of things male and females respond to. Star wars lego was probably more popular with boys in the marketing research so they target the product to males. It is up to the parents then to tell their daughter that they don't have to buy a mini kitchen or a pink doll. They can purchase a scalelectric or a action figure with guns if you want.

The problem is that we do force toys on to children. We force boy toys on to boys regardless of what they want to play with and girl toys on to girls regardless of what they want to play with. The distinction is only there because we as a society have made it there. In reality there should be just "toys" and kids should be free to play with whatever they like.

who is this 'we'? my son loves princess stuff as much as he loves things like ben 10 and that. and both our sons like playing cooking and stuff. we don't tell them 'that's for girls' well we do, but if they still want it we wont stop them.

There is just toys and parents are able to buy whatever they want for children. What you are saying is that the government should force toy sellers to not target the sale of toys to specific genders or sort them in such a way as to have girls toys together and boys toys together. If a toy maker finds that mixing all the toys is more effective way to sell toys then that person is free to do that.

Unfortunately many women only want equal rights when it suits them.

Too true, Sadly

No, it doesn't.......I believe that everyone should be treated equally under the law, I do not specify the rights of one gender over another nor do I define myself or my behaviour specifically in regard to the rights or lack thereof of one gender over another....for example I support a Woman's right for Maternity leave, I also support the right of Men to Paternity leave of equal provision.......If I was a feminist I would be concerned primarily with Woman's rights and equality, not equality of all regardless of gender.

The problem is that some groups (and wikipedia authors) attempt to redefine definitions to include more people in their specific groups....we see this across a range of causes and definitive groups who want to garner more support than they may otherwise be attributed.

The laws when it comes to paternity vs maternity will never be equal. Most companies don't even acknowledge fathers even exist, especially single fathers. Just look at all the adverts on TV every single day with rubbish like "mums know best" and "mums shop at asda" etc. There are tonnes of feminist adverts on TV which give the false sense that its normal and fine to think this way.

I'm 100% behind equality, yet it needs to be provided at all levels. Paternity and maternity leave post birth should be equal for example, so the father can bond properly with the child, just like the mother does. Advertisements against 1 parent should be made illegal as they act like single fathers don't exist and that women are always in the right when it comes to child care and wellbeing, which (newsflash!), they aren't.

This is exactly it. Really drives me mad!

It is utterly bizarre to me that women are still thought of as second-class by some people. I wouldn't call myself a feminist though. I'd like to think of this opinion as being 'normal'.

This. I see women no different than myself and other males. I recognize their difference to men but don't see them the less for it.

No one stated that men make better leaders it is just naturally common that the man adopts a leadership role in the household/family unit and the woman more a support role. Being the "leader" doesn't make you the better (being in the forces I know that all too well :p ). Nothing is "forcing" the natural differences, they just are. My other half is absolutely of the same belief on this, she thinks her role as a woman is to support me in everything I do. After all said and done the woman usually wears the trousers, so to speak, doesn't she? ;)

Like they say, behind every great man...
