***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Actually could someone really put the battery to the test by browsing for at least 1 hour on a wifi connection, doesn't have to be flash/image intensive sites, any website you visit in general would do combined with your other general usage and post some screenshots when you hit 15% or lower (of the battery info as done above and browser time [can see this just by clicking on whatever the browser is called in the battery usage chart] please:)

Browsing rapes the battery on my S :(

Like this?

I opened a PDF and this Polaris Viewer crashed but continued to use the CPU, that was after about 45 mins of browsing though...

Yup, just like that is fine :)

That is good, when I charge mine up and as soon as it is disconnected I will do the same, just have no apps running in the background (apart from the required like email etc.) and try to browse for 45 minutes straight and see what is left at the end of that.

What was screen brightness set to?

That ICS theme is excellent. Like clean alloys on a car, it makes it look much more impressive all round. It also adds lockscreen rotation so docked in a car or on a bedside, looks/functions nicely.

An extended battery is much more likely than a black GS 3 being released :p

Serious? If that happens it just means that some folk on the Sammy board have decided to abandon millions of unit sales ww, out of a misguided loyalty to a design concept, there are after all plenty of black minerals to name the black model after, glossy or matte even.

I expect they expect to sell 50 mill+ S3's and if 4/5 mill of those are, after a wait, black it represents a couple of bill £££, imho they'll do black like any other person who has a legal duty to maximise their shareholders profits and is a money addict like the rest of us

Yup! :p

Don't get me wrong, I really want to see a true black version as well, just to see how it compares to the pebble blue and if it would look much better.

But I really can't see it happening for the stated reasons before.

The problem is the majority of people (average joes) will not care about the colour as much as what some of us here do and therefore will either just pick the blue/purple/black (whatever colour it is :p) or the white model and that will be it and if they don't, they will simply go with another brand of phone like the grey HTC one X or black one S etc. instead and chances are that when/if Samsung release a proper black model, these people won't go and buy the new black model when they already have a white/blue or a different handset solely because of the colour. Also a lot of people use cases on their phones nowadays, therefore the colour isn't as much of an issue then.

Don't forget we only make up a very small % of the population that really do care about all these things like colour, design, hardware etc. when compared to the general public.

Even if I had the blue or white GS 3 now and Samsung did release a black version, I wouldn't even consider changing what I had just because of the colour despite loving the colour black for tech devices etc.

Plus the majority of people I imagine will be taking new phones out on contract and therefore will be pretty much stuck on whatever phone/colour of GS 3 they went for, for the next 18/24 months, unless they plan on buying out their contract and taking a new one out for a black GS 3, unlocking their current one and selling it on the auction site and then buying the black GS 3 outright etc.

Heck they won't even know about the possibility of a black version in the future as nothing has been confirmed at all, there aren't even any rumours being reported by the android sites afaik.

If Samsung do actually have any intentions of releasing a black model in the future, then it was stupid of them to not have have released it with just the white model, instead of possibly 2-5 months (maybe even more) down the line after the main release date, by which time new and better phones will be out anyway i.e. the nexus phones etc. and the general interest in the GS 3 will have died down by then as well.

That is how I look at it anyway :p Hope I am wrong though!

Also regarding the above point for people waiting for the colour black, even some people here didn't really care too much about the colour in the end as remember that they were all in for the PB, however, as soon as we found out that the PB was going to be delayed for about 2 weeks or whatever length of time it was, most of the people who had ordered the PB quickly changed to the white, therefore colour mustn't have been that important in the first place then.

And for quite a few people, it isn't just the colour that has put them off, it is the design regarding the brushed glossy plastic, the camera, speaker and flash area, the hard home button (which is made worse by it being a different shade to the rest of the phone for the PB version), the trim etc. and those reasons alone have made people go for the X, S etc. instead.

As said I could be completely wrong and they could announce the black GS 3 along side the new note etc. but I would be very surprised if they do.

The download is taking ages, the lack of mirrors is ****!

ICS theme via the kitchen I take it?

Ah I shall check that out thanks.

mrk, that is the ICS Theme I was referring to :)

Just had to send mine back, only had it a day. It would appear my handset is suffering from the "death grip" that plagued the iPhone 4. The handset is fine laid down on a desk, put as soon as you pick it up and hold it, all the bars of signal disappear. Not best pleased for a £500 phone, Samsung's response was just to "factory reset" it, but that made no difference, so sent it back for a replacement handset

That must be your video on YouTube then!!

Anyone else recreate this?

If you don't think over 3 hours screen on time and more than 25 hours life isn't good, then you don't know smartphones.

3 hours of usage with the screen on isn't good. My 4S gets far more than that. I'm considering the move to the S3 next pay day, reading that three hours screen time is good isn't filling me with confidence.

Is that enough use of italics for you? Get over yourself.

Guess i don't know my smartphones.

I'd be more concerned about his reading ability - it clearly says 4:45 screen time not 3 hours :D

I was talking about mrk's post, where he said the three hour figure. You posted at the same time as me, your post ended up above mine. Is it that hard to comprehend?

The thing about screen time is, just how long is anyone away from a plug point or car charger, even builders on an outside job have plenty access to a point, if I was hiking in the lake district I would attach one of my solar chargers to my rucksack and be constantly charging.

Even 45min on charge in your lunch time in a warehouse will be more than enough charge to get anyone home, imho it is a non issue except for those of us involved professionally in battery development.

Of course anyone can avoid the issue by spending a tenner on Eb for a spare bat

So it comes down to being a thing to use that points out your superior discernment in choosing a model of phone or attacking another model that you didn't buy based on a perceived weakness, again pointing out your superior discernment for not buying the "carp" phone, some kind of success through association.

I've never once said its a **** phone. Hardware wise, it's superior to the 4S in every single aspect. The problem is that if all of that superiority cannot be used for more than a few hours at a time, then it's enough to put me off. I've had a play with one and the screen is SO far ahead of the one on the 4S it's quite unbelievable.

BUT GOD FORBID SOMEBODY CRITICISES THE BATTERY LIFE.

Stay with your iphone then. I don't think you'll find any current smart phone that has a better battery life than the S3.. least not at the moment.
